Hey Guys,

Just wondering if the current BACO model 70 short action is long enough to build a 7x57 on. I know a couple of short actions like the 1999 are...just not sure on the 70
Most 7X57s are made on the standard Mauser length magazines or "30-06 length" It's possible to make the bolt and chamber work with the 7X57, but the overall cartridge length is not correct for the 308 length magazine.
IIRC the mag length of the model 70 short action is something like 3.1 or 3.150, which should fit a 7x57. Nosler has the OAL of the cartridge at something under 3.1".
I am unconvinced there is much benefit to running the short action 70 vs the std length though.
The benefit is that I have a short action donor wink
That is a definite benefit! What is the mag box length?
7mm-08 comes to mind as an alternative.

Just completed one about a week ago.. Bit of a pita but certainly doable..

Need to modify the magazine and ejector (or replace it) but that's about it..
I used a .243 Pre-64 donor to build a 6.5-284. Like Redneck said, I had to replace the ejector and bolt stop. I knocked out the box mag spacer, bought a std. length follower and spring.

The donor had been cut down, stock and barrel, bought the gun for $400. So I didn't ruin a collector grade specimen. Had to mention that for the purists... grin
