I have a 40X short action single shot with 308 bolt face, Sako extractor conversion, and fluted bolt. Thinking this is 70s vintage and in good shape. I've had it for 20 years and can't seem to find a use for it and would like to see it find a good home. Any suggestion on value and desirability?
ALL 40X's are short actions.
Cut the bastardized bolt up & throw it in a scrap bin.
Sell the bare action.
Call Remington Custom Shop w/suffixed serial number & they will tell you the 'smith/caliber/date shipped to distributor.
I figure a good, used, 40X action is worth about 2/3 what a Stiller or Borden Remington clone is worth. I have not priced a Stiller lately. GD

Thanks, I figured they still had a demand I just didn't know to what extent.
Selling a complete Remington 40X rifle on the used market isnt easy, let alone a stripped action. But patience is the key, I wouldnt be in a hurry to sell it, Im sure the right buyer will show up sooner or later.
The 40X is only different from a 700 in that this is a single shot and says 40X instead of 700. No other differences in the receivers.
The 40X only were supposed to be built off the 722. 40XB off the 700 SA.
I’ve seen these sell for around $500. Send me some pictures I might know some guys that would be interested. PS Don’t listen to Dans40x about the bolt there are plenty of guys that would prefer it like that.
Thanks all I figured they would have a following just didn't know how limited. I might package it with the 22 Cheetah dies and all the brass at first and see if I can sell it as a package.
