This evening at the gun shop the dealer asked if I wanted to sell my Marlin 44 magnum lever action. And, I would, but I don't know what price to put on it. I would give it 85% condition, I got it in a trade and have no sentimental history with it.

Any ideas on what I should ask for it?

Around $300 if it's a pre-safety model.
I recently sold an older pre-safety one in a little better shape for $350.

Is it a M336 or a M1894? That will also effect the value.

Not to steal this thread but I was offered a Marlin 336 in 44 magnum at the Chantilly Gun show for $300.00 in 90% condition.

I did not buy it...did I screw up?

Double yep Doc - that one is a pretty desirable collectors piece as well as a fine shooting rifle.

An unaltered pre-CBS would bring more than $300 in 85%. Not to mention if the owner is asking he must have a buyer. I would take no less than $350 but would have to get $450 for mine before letting it go.

It is an 1894. I see them going for about $400 - $450 on Gunbroker.com

$400 is a more realistic price for a good condition rifle.

1980 Marlin 1894 .44 Mag. I paid $420 for recently online. Hard to find one for under $400 anywhere online. I consider this a steal with todays market for Marlins.

As for the 336 .44 mag. There is an allen wrench screw behind the forearm on the reciever. To access it you must remove the forearm. This will help fix any feeding issues but you must make sure its all the way in... thus not allowing the carrier to drop to soon. Below in my 1965 336T .44 Mag. It needed lots of work when I got it and still needs a bit more. Yep, you should have got one...

I am assuming it is an 1894?? What does the wood look like?? Is the wood nicked up??

It depends on which one but before you sell it to him for $300 if it is not nicked up I will give you $350 for it right now. But I will be honest and tell you that it is worth more than that.

I have bought and sold a few of them in the last year. I sold two of them for $450, and one for $500. However all three were 95%+. The one I sold for $500 had unbelievable wood for a Marlin. I could have easily gotten $550 for the rifle. And I sold all three of these rifles on the net.

So unless your rifle is rough then yes $300 is too low. Tom.

Man these have gone nuts. I bought a checkered microgroove one on GB 2 years ago for $275.00. BTW shot hardcasts just fine.

I just sold a 90% .44 magnum Marlin Model 1894 for $490 and bought a 90% Browning .44 magnum Model 1892 for $600 so there is realtime market value and not assumptions.
