Why hasn't anyone ever made a 22 Hornet lever action? There are several 22 mags out there, why not a special run of hornets? I know it would be different due to the centerfire vs rimfire but I would think that this would have been done. They are like little .30-30 shells for cryin out loud.


While they are at it, why hasn't anyone made a .327 federal lever action yet?

I've wondered the same thing. I've also wondered the same thing about a 222 Rem. or a 223. Someone may make them, but I've never seen one. I do have a lever 22-250 in a Model 99 Savage, so why wouldn't a 22 hornet work?

Would a lever action .218 Bee do ? Both Marlin and Browning have made them in the last 10 yrs and Winchester made one for a while years ago.

cool guns but they dont really sell that well. I think
they still make it in 22-250.

Those round are mostly considered varmint cartridges. None have done very well in the leveraction platform due to them not being as accurate as a bolt or single shot. However, having said that I think a 22 Hornet in the Browning BLR would be a neat option.

I would really like to see Marlin bring the 22 Hornet or the 218 Bee back out in the Marlin 1894. That platform is more than accurate enough for the limited range that the cartridge itself is designed for. You don't need to shoot 1/4" groups all day long to kill varmints at 150 yards. Tom.

Depends on how small your varmints are.

I have enuff guns- including 2 hornets, if they built a leveraction 22 hornet I would have to buy one.

I wished Ruger would make their 96 lever in .22 Hornet. I think the problem there is the length of the cartridge.

I have a Marlin 62 that has been rebarreled to 218 Bee that works quite well, despite the crappy trigger. The 'smith who did the conversion threaded the receiver and barrel, as the donor in 256 Win Mag had a pinned barrel.

I had two of the Ruger lever action rifles. A 22 magnum, and the 44 magnum. They were two of the worst shooting rifles I ever saw in my entire life. Tom.

My son has one in .22 long rifle that has been accurate. The trigger is not the best but I have shot worse.

I had a 96-17 that shot OK, despite the crappy trigger and stock ergs.

How about an 1885 Winchester in Hornet. Makes a good varmint rig............and it is a lever gun.

I have a Win 9422mag in a lever and a Rem 597 .22mag auto. They are a hoot to shoot. Lots of guys here are using .22mag autos for prairie dogs out to 200yds +.

I vaguely recall having read somewhere that Winchester briefly cataloged the 1873 in .22 WCF, which is the blackpowder version of the Hornet. I don't know if they actually made any though......

As for a .327 lever gun, Marlin has made .32-20's on and off and evidently can't sell enough to keep them in steady production, and they also made a .32 H&R mag version, and evidently couldn't sell enough to keep them in production, so........

The Hornet case OR the 223 case would be a bit of a problem to fit an ejector and extractor in the Marlins...BUT...for those that really want a varminter any small cal on the BR or PPC cases would be just a re-barrel as the base is the about the same size as the 3030 AND there are a few wildcat using the 30-30 and 225 Win cases, like the 219 Zipper of old.

There are some very simple ways to get a small bore levergun and some very complicated ways, but it can be done if you don't mind paying the bucks.

I keep looking at the 22, 25 and 6.5 BR for a swap barrel on my 336.

As far as accuracy goes there are ways to make a levergun shoot as good as a bolt gun, just not as high a velocity because of the pressure limitations.
