I was in my local pawn shop the other day looking around. I happened to see a Marlin 30-30 model 30AW I believe it was. The rifle was in pretty good shape. The previous owner had replaced the stock and forend with an aftermarket replacements. These replacements actually look really good! I have always wanted a "tactical" 30-30 of some sorts. The asking price is $350. I know this is too much because I could get a new one at Wally world for about the same amount.
I am tempted to see if they will take less and put it in layaway. I was wondering if anyone had any futher ideas for the "tactical" part. I really don't "need" another Marlin 30-30; however, this would be the absolute "perfect" utilty rifle. It wouldn't matter if I accidently dropped it at any time. Any thoughts will greatly be appreciated!
Sounds like you are describing a "truck gun" or "foul weather gun". That's always a good idea - offer the shop $250 OTD and see if they take you up on it.
What did the AW indicate?

Unless my mental picture of the rifle is off it sounds grossly overpriced.
I believe the "AW" was a cheaper line of guns made for Wal Mart
