I have a question about deer hunting with a .45LC.
With a well placed shot, what is the effective range of this
cartridge with the Henry Big Boy?
Thanks for your help.

deer are not all that difficult to kill Ive killed several at over 150 yards with my marlin 44mag, Id expect a 45lc to easily duplicate that or more with 300 grain bullets

Saddlering:
This is really a fun gun to shoot. So far I have just shot pistol loads in it. I contacted Henry yesterday and talked with a technician about shooting heavier loads in this rile such as the heavy load Corbon or Buffalo Bore. He assured me that the Big Boy will handle the heavy loads. 45 Colt+P
I am going to reload some heavier loads and see how they shoot.
I also have a Big Boy 44 Magnum that I have not shot yet. I might give that a go tomorrow if this rain every stops.
With the 45C pistol loads I was able to shoot a 2" group at 75yards with the open sights on the rifle. I just don't think it would look right with a scope on it. I figured with my old eyes, I would limit myself to 75 yards with this gun. Anything over that I will use my H&R Slug gun here in Southern Michigan.

Have you looked into the Skinner peep sights for this rifle? not sure if they make them for this one , im waiting for one for my Marlin 32-20 1894, I have 2 45colt hand guns now and when I get back on my feet, would like to find a lever gun in this cal. good luck with the deer hunting!
