Way back when...Savage had a cool .25 and a 308 before there was a 308... so why no .35? It would have been easy to go .35 Remington, but a 350 Savage may have been the winner.

There was a .35 Savage 99, it is called the .358 Winchester. Mine has slayed many a deer. It never sold worth a darn, and certainly wasn't a winner in the sales dept. It was, however, the best cartridge ever chambered in the rifle(this is just my humble opinion!). But I'm with you, why no .35 Rem is a mystery.

A 35 Savage case would be easier to form from other brass than the 35 Remington.

Heard of a 35 Rem. prototype Savage 99, but the 358 was it for production rifles.

There used to be a 35-300 Savage wildcat, it being the 300 Savage necked up to 358. It's something to do with a shot out or rusted 300 Savage barrel, I guess. Here's an old thread on it:

Neat old thread. I recently ran a 30/40 case through a 35 Whelen (Redding) size die. Neato! A 35 Krag is in my future probably a T/C or 1885.

Rory, didn't someone just post about a Savage experimental or prototype or some such in 35/300?

Several years ago I encountered a Krag Jorgensen that had been rebored to 35 Krag. One of the guys here has a Savage 99 that has been converted to 35 REM. I always thought a 99T in 35 REM would have been cool.

Could be, but if so then I missed the post.

Rory,It was about the 35-300 experimental rifle, with the tang safety, and unloader. CTW owned it,then i owned it for 3 years, now Fug owns it !!! At the time they tried out the 35 caliber, savage was more into high velocity,250-3000,and 300 im thinking ! Don

Ah yes, the really early tang and unloader. THOSE parts I remember, the cartridge wasn't so exciting to me. grin

Rory,I fire formed a 300 case in it,and it was very close to a 35 Rem in dimension, but a bit slimmer near the case head.I,m thinking that savage wasn't trying to push a cartridge so close to a 35 Rem, to get people thinking"why dont i just buy a Remington" ? grin
