I have one of the "Classics" from the 1990's, which has the crossbolt safety. The trigger is rough, stiff, and creepy. How hard is it to do a trigger job - at least get it down to 4-5 lbs, and crisp?

Get a Wild West trigger. That's the best option for that gun.

I took my crossbolt 39a to a local gunsmith and had it honed down to 3.5# from the 7# the factory gave it. Cost me maybe $35, about 15 years ago.
