Looking to go back to a lever, BLR more and more likely. I have a Sako 85 Bavarian that is a great shooter, but just not what I want.

Any pics of your BLR's and are they stainless or not. What did you mount for optics, I was thinking short and small (1-5x power maybe) Leupold or Swaro.

I have a BLR .308 stainless take down with straight stock. Mounted on top is a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32mm. It is my go to favorite rifle. I use it for stand hunting or beating the brush. It has always treated me very well and the accuracy is great. Even when I take it down and throw it in a pack and then put it back together, POI always stays right on. Great rifle IMHO.

You'll have to try the rifles on to determine which stock style fits you best.

I like the looks of the pistol grip but it was the straight stock that fit me the best.

I have a Vortex Diamondback 1.75-32 on my BLR in 358 Winchester. Short and small works well and looks good too.

Thanks all - I had a BLR 308 straight stock, that started to lock up when working the action. It was bought approx Sept of 1990. I see now that there is a recall for just that, I must have had one of those actions, but it was traded. The Sako is excellent, but just not what I want.

Time to find the two and compare feel at a LGS.

My experience with two BLR's in Stainless is that they sure mark and scuff easy. For a "stainless" rifle I'm thinking they may not be entirely stainless but wearing a coating of some kind. A damn poor one at that.

I just bought a Stainless Steel Browning BLR Take-Down straight grip in 30-06, so there is my answer. Paid $1000 and haven't shot it yet.

Sako Bavarian 85. Tack driver, love the Swaro Z3 on it. Just want to go back to the lever gun, and need to figure that out.

When Iwas shopping for a 45-70 I was advised to buy a pistol grip rifle. The advisor said tha pulling a straight stock firmly into your shoulder jammed the pinky into the rear of the lever which hurt when the gun recoiled. Since he owned 5 45-70 rifles I took his advice.

The stainless are all stainless. They just do some funky beadblast on them. Would appears to be scuffing is actually the finish polishing. Then the receivers are alloy and match for crap. That said I own a stainless straight stock takedown in 358. I like it better than the shiny blue gloss stock. For me the pistol grip made working the bolt awkward. The pistol grip stock and forearm are also larger dimension adding some weight. But the higher comb is nicer for a scope. I am not bothered enough yet by the stainless marking up. Might eventually have it all cerakoted.

My biggest suggestion would be go with the takedown model of whatever flavor you like. The BLRs are a pain to clean. You don't want to be taking the action part. The takedown is way easier to blast the action out and clean the bolt face and lug recesses in the breech. As for accuracy I had a non takedown as well as takedown both stainless laminate. No difference in group size with the same ammo. Takedown point of impact sifts maybe 3/4" at most after takedown and reassemble.

I like the straight stock on my early BLR 358. I find stocks without pistol grips faster to get on target.

If it were a varmint rifle then I'd go with the pistol grip.

I purchased two BLR this year 308 win. and a 300 win. mag. both are S.S. with pistol grip stocks .308 win has a 3-9x40 lepould ,300 win. mag has a 4.5-14 x50 lepould I put high rings on both.

I believe on the BLR's the barrel is stainless but the receiver is alloy that is anodized.

My 308 WIN, BLR-81 is of the older design, but this will give you an idea of what a straight grip stock looks like with a Redfield 3-9x40 riflescope mounted on it. I find it to still be a light and handy firearm (used to have a 2-7x32 on it). Odessa

i've only shot one blr and been long while so not sure what stock it was but shoot alot of winnies,marlin's and savage 99 in both stocks and pistol grip has always felt better to me.My advice is handle both before you decide
