I'm helping a friend set up a Skinner peep sight on his 94....
He wants a FO front bead but I can't find one that is the correct width...both Williams and Marbels make them in .250 and .340 widths but his in .290....
Marbels doesn't have a rifle specific chart but Williams specifically says the .340 fits a 94..........not..
Tru Glow also makes a 3/8 dovetail front bead but damned if I can find out how wide they are.....

I worry that the .340 will snag on stuff...I could put the .250 on it or maybe change the front ramp but I'd really like to have one that fits the existing ramp (maybe someone changed the front ramp at sometime, dunno)...anyway....are there any mfgr's I'm missing?

Or an even longer shot....does anyone know how wide Tru Glows front beads are?

I have Williams fire sights on both my 94's. The one made in 1949 has a .290" wide ramp and the 1979 has a .340" wide ramp. For years I had a .340" wide lyman ivory bead sight on the .290" pre 64's ramp. Never got snagged on anything or otherwise caused any problems. A little bit of overhang ain't gonna hurt a thing. Now I have a .250" wide sight on it and that works fine too. It really doesn't look bad either way. Tell your buddy to do himself a favor and go with the green fiber optic. I've used both and the green shows up much better than the red in really low light.

I'm sure the market for a .290 sight would be pretty small....duh....

And thanks for the info on the green bead....I like the red but I just might try green on one of my leverguns....matter of fact....I have a Henry Frontier in 22WMR that's in need a FO front blade....

You could use a .340 and trim it to fit.......unless your hand tool challenged.

That's a .250 width and .290 height.

And then what.....put some of that cold blue that lasts about a month on the sides after you file em down.....

I ended up putting a .250 on it.....it's hardly noticeable and the owners happy as a clam....

I have used hot pink or bright green marking paint,I spray it on a piece of cardboard let it dry and make a powder out of it.Then I mix it with superglue gel and paint it on the front sight with the fuzzy end of a book match,it holds up real good.
