Posted in another forum but thought id put it here too. Shot this bear with a browning 71. It went down instantly with a neck shot and the gun handled like it was an extension of my arm. Id post a pic of the gun but many would consider it an abomination with it's scout mounted scope.
Nothing wrong with a scout scope setup.
Well done!!! Congrats!!!!!

And for using a nice lever rifle??? Another well done!!!
Sweet! PA bear?
Now I'm curious I've never seen a scout mount on a 71 and would love to hear and see more about it.
I had the mount custom made by a local gunsmith. It looks like u would expect really a forward mounted scope. Never got around to taking a picture but I'll try to pretty soon and I'll post it up. Some people don't care for them but I like how they work. Leap years ahead of a peep but I would never say it functions as well as a traditionally mounted scope. Here in Pa where we have to count points on bucks before we pull the trigger it comes in real handy to have some magnification.

Thanks looking forward to your photos.

Here is the browning with the scope mount. Disregard the caveman feet. Not sure why the picture is upside down .
That looks perfect, minus those feet lol. Big fan of the 71 and I'd love to play with a scout scope on one. Thanks for the follow up with pics.

You were right, that is an abomination.

The scope set up is, well, different. But, nice bear!
What county did you get your bear in?
