I was at a yard sale and found 3 boxes of the Sierra 125 FNHP bullets for 2 dollars a box. They came home with and I loaded some 20 at 32.3 gr. with a CCI 200 primer. Shot 3 - 5 shot groups and the were all in 1 1/4" to 1 3/8" at
100 yards. Has any one ever used this bullet on deer? Or a similar bullet? Deer season comes in here in 2 weeks and I was thinking about trying it just for some thing different. Rifle is a 94 Winchester AE. Any input would be appreciated.
I shot one doe with them... Pretty soft, but it worked from a 24 " barreled Marlin in .30-30.. Don't remember the load off hand..

There is a guy over at Marlin owners who has been successful on deer using the Sierra 125 gr HPFN bullet and has posted post mortum pictures of the internal damage. I'd say you be good to go.

I have a load worked up for my Marlin 30-30 using CFE-223 using the Sierra 125 gr bullet...just have hunted with the rifle yet. The bullet shoots under an inch for 3 shots at 100 yds

Appreciate the replies. I believe I will try it. I am very selective of the shots I take, and shot placement.Again, Thanks!

Around 1992 some friends of mine were having a problem with a pack of dogs that had gone wild and developed a propensity for chewing on calves. I used a 94 Winchester with that particular bullet, over a stiff charge of 4198, at ranges from 15 to 170 yards. Made nasty exit wounds inside 50 yards and was effective at distance too.

I bought 5 boxes at about $14.00 a box and thought that I got a good buy. I loaded 20 with 33.5 grains of Vitha N135 and haven't tried them yet. I am just basically going to plink with my 30/30 or shoot a hog at some point in time.

I would have guessed they would be too light to shoot well at any distance in the .30-30. That is interesting. That would be good Coyote Medicine.
Speer also makes a 130gn cave point that should work in the .30/30 as it approximates the cavity size of the Barnes TSXFNHP. (They call it a FN but it is really a very large HP)
I used the Speer for culling in my .30/06 and with held together and slapped like an oar on water when it hit.
