Was watching a cool documentary on National Geographic about Alaska grizzlies on the SE islands. Saw a guy wearing a musher-type hat on the show. Anyone know where I can get one of these? (The guy in the pic is a bear researcher and was in the documentary. His name is Lavern Beier. It's a great show)

I had a few other questions for you Alaska/Yukon people. I've noticed that almost all of the synthetic musher hats have short and soft flexible bills. Is there any reason for this. I've seen a few other photos where mushers will wear wear a baseball cap with a longer, stiff bill underneath the musher hat.

I think the flap-hats don't have much of a brim because there is not much sun in the winter. It seems to be enough brim for spring ice fishing though. They flex in the wind too, and are less likely to blow off one's head.
Can't know why the gent pictured is wearing a ball cap under the insulhat. Maybe to keep the soft brim from blowing down in his face?
