I have been looking to cut down on my pack weight and ran into these shelters.

Anyone here ever used these systems. The weights looks spot on for my needs. I use hiking poles so like that they will work for supports too.

I looked at those but couldn't bring myself to replace my Kifaru tarps. I just like the two trekking pole or tree limb setup.

Could you find anything about the interior height?

Kifaru tarps rock for sure but I have a Paratipi and was looking for something a bit different. The poncho thing would also work for raingear and the other small shelter has a bug net. Both positives and should help me cut down on pack weight. Been hiking nearly 20 miles on some weekends and getting a bit beaten up.

Now that Gatewood cape is cool. I can really see it as a piece of emergency gear. For regular camping, they'd be small for me and my claustrophobia. I'd rather carry another 5 to 7 ounces and go with my ST but bugs at night generally aren't a huge concern for me. Woodswalker, just buy them and give US the report. I'd definitely like to hear one of your field reports on that cape/tarp. Price seems very reasonable for what it is.

I own the Gatewood Cape and a few other Six Moon Designs Shelters. They are excellent products. I don't have any personal experience with the second link (wild oasis) but do know that it has basically the same dimensions of the cape but you can't use it as a poncho and it has bug netting on the bottom.

I also own a Golite Poncho Tarp that is in my dayhiking kit (used for emergency unplanned night out). I much prefer the Gatewood cape since it provides full 360 degree protection if you want. The Golite is small enough that it really needs the addition of a bivy to protect from wind blown rain etc.

Gatewood peak height is 45 inches pegged to the ground and you can also pitch it higher in better weather for more ventilation etc.

I used SMD Lunar Solo in 2008 which seems like the Oasis but with a bottom.

It's well made but I had a really hard time keeping the sides off my head and sleeping bag foot box. Not much head room other than at the peak. I really liked the side entry and the floor space but it was just a little to short for me with the pitch of the sides.

For comparison, my bother had a Tarp Tent Contrail. Same issue with the head room. He could keep the sides off his bag, but front entry is a pain and there's not much room for gear in the vestibule and no room inside. The Lunar Solo had plenty of room to keep my gear out of the weather.

One thing that helps is to guy out the small tie outs at the foot and head ends. This adds a bit of head room and foot room. I've got an image attached. How do I make it so it shows in the post??

Just realized it's a SMD lunar solo, but my gatewood cape has the same mid point guy outs. Since I use one of my poles for the main shelter, I use my other pole for the head area, and sometimes a stick for the foot area, though I don't alway do that one.
