Has anyone made their own roll up stove pipe for their stove? I am just curious, is it just stainless shim stock or is their more to it?
I am thinking 316 stainless shim stock, .005"/.007" in thickness with some with some worm drive hose/tube clamps.
Any thoughts?
.004 Stainless with aircraft cable or braided stainless downrigger cable for the rings. McMaster-Car has the shim stock.
ideas on how long and wide, i have a 6man ti goat and homemade stove for 3in pipe
12" wide, 100 inch long piece cut to what you need length wise.
Fastenal also sells the shimstock rolls, That is where i got mine.
I wonder if you should use a certain grade of SS for the chimney Fastenal has 302/304 grade and Mcmaster Carr has 316 ?
I don't think the potential for rusting is worth worrying about. The degree to which it "sets" after high temps would be the biggest factor. I don't recall the characteristics of those grades, but remember McMaster-Carr listing them on their website.
I imagine EdT has just the answer you are looking for though.
I just know that most of the class A chimney pipe like we use on our houses is made of 316 SS..
I have used both 302/304 and 316 and haven't noticed a difference in durability or "set ability"
i use regular fastenal shimstock and it only costs 20.00 bucks.
but then again my tipis are built out of plastic.

I just looked and it is 40 now.
Can someone point me to what exactly I am looking for? I need a pipe for a small kifaru stove and have no idea what i need.
You would need a 12" wide roll of .004 stainless steel shimstock long enough to get you through the top of the tipi by a couple feet.
