I'm looking at the HPG Umlindi daypack:

There is an option of adding on a Prairie Belt, if I'm inclined to load it up with something heavy.

Here's my question: Can anyone tell me if a Prairie Belt and the Umlindi's shoulder harness can be adjusted to accomodate a LONG torso? I don't know my exact measurement, but I am for sure long between shoulder and hip.

Even the Hills will tell you, if you plan to run a belt on it, you are better off getting the Ute before the lindi. The only thing the Umalindi does better than the Ute is to be smaller. The HPG compression system "sizes" the pack to your load. I would only pick the Umilindi over the Ute if it was to be primarily used as a travel/flying pack. You could probably put shorter stays or make some "bayonet" style folding stays and do the same thing with a Ute.

Hence my use of the word "daypack."

I have one. I love it for the day pack role. I spent 6hours in mine Tuesday with about 20 lbs. Scouting for elk. I don't think it would work well with belt for a tall person.

I'd still go HPG, obviously I did. When you get to more weight then the Umlindi can carry comfortably you need a bigger pack then the two mentioned.

I've had both, I sold the UTE, but I'm a small person and it was toobig and not suspended well enough when loaded down. If you were in a cold climate and had a fat sleeping bag/ warm layers/ mountain serape etc, it's proobably pretty good.

I use the tarahumara (scrapped the HPG harness and made my own lighter straps) for my day hunts/ scouting trips, umilindi is a nice 3 day pack, but I'm in a warm climate where I can generally sleep fine in a hammock

I have all three packs mentioned and greatly prefer the Umlindi for daypack mode. I also have and use the Prairie belt with it. The 'lindi is the most comfortable daypack/assault pack I have used.




BTW- I am 5'9", 185lbs with a slightly longer than average torso.

I am 6-2 and umlindi works fine with prairie belt. I run a pouch and,if solo,a kifaru gunbearer, with mine and very comfy loaded up. Small/short enough to wrap belt and hang off saddlehorn. Top quality stuff.

The Umlindi has a good bit of adjustment available in the harness. I would think it would work well for you.

Consider the Recon belt for an Umlindi. Makes for a pretty sleek set up. While the Ute can be compressed, I prefer my Umlindi over the Ute for a daypack. Have both plus a Tara to compare. I'm only 6', but it fits fine.

Wore mine for a few miles today, took my 2 year old for a hike, my normal hunting day trip load out is a Tarahumara, but I threw that in the umilindi and added some water bottles knowing I would need the waistbelt and a sturdier platfrom once my little guy went out and I would be carrying his pack/ him back to the truck.

15-20 lbs, that thing is comfy for all day. Even with poorly planned, uneven loads.
