[bleep] that....

Pack a 5th of Bookers or Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve.

Not only am I Irish, I have a doctorate in backcountry whiskyology

125 proof bourbon is good stuff. Period... Also, it can't be called bourbon if it goes into the barrel at higher proof than 125. I figure I can add water to it when I get where I'm going (or not smile )

They're both from Beam Distileries. Bookers is as good as it gets. They literally dump selected barrels right into bottles... Not even filtered... Knob Creek Single Barrel is aged 9 years, and is obviously deeper in color, charactor, and complexity than Bookers. Neither one suck, although they are very different bourbons considering they likely both come from the same white dog. They both run about 60 bucks in Montucky. Either way... Once you start drinking high proof single barrel bourbons, you'll never go back.

Or if you're a cheap ass, and dumb enough to still drink Jack Daniels like when you were in high school...

There's two bourbons in the same price point that don't suck.

Bulleit Bourbon has a very large amount of rye in it's mash bill. It has very dirty earthy overtones upon it's finish. Particularly if you really know how to drink bourbon... You'll notice this when you "chew it up" It's also available in a 10 year old version... But I can't tell you if it's worth a [bleep]... I can't find it in Montucky.

Both these bourbons drink better than Jack, and hit the same price point. They hold up well in classic vintage cocktails. Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, Sazeracs, Sours... [bleep] even with Coke in them if you need to feed your inner Hellion. However if you drink either of the two bourbons mentioned in my first post that way, you're a blesphemus cocksukking hippy that needs to be punched in the face, crucified, then burned at a KKK rally in bourbon country.

The bourbon comment (and entire post for that matter) was meant in jest. I figured some of the gram weenies would be attracted to such a product

PS. I purchased Bulleit the first time simply because I thought it was a cool, throwback-type of bottle.

jdb,

Is that article real or is it satire?

I just looked it up and it appears to be a real product. I gotta try me some of this stuff.

Thanks,

We should hit Rick up for a Bourbon/Whisky sub-forum. Dan obviously needs a venue to educate the ignorant. The fanciest bourbon I've graduated to is Makers...........and I'm probably not even drinking it correctly! blush grin

You're not gonna get very far off the road carrying 30lbs worth of bourbon and [bleep]' hatchets!

Hell, you don't even need to bother with rehydrating.

Just bring a swizzle stick and use a flat rock to line it up.

Exactly. A drinking sub-forum makes no pretense of even getting outside............although a good drink (coffee, beer or whisky) indoors can become a great drink outdoors. Hiking somewhere can further improve the view, but can sometimes slow down the mission. grin

That was some funny stuff. Call it 'flave-lining'. Probably make for a mean hangover.

My last hiking adventure called for some Elmer T Lee, prior to that was Woodford's Reserve, I recommend both Bourbon's.

"How was your trip last week?"

"No idea..."

When I first met Adair he gave me hell for even suggesting bourbon drinking while they still made scotch. I'm thinking maybe I'm rubbing off on him.
Posted By: DanAdair Re: Light weight alcohol..... - 04/22/14
I literally drank so much scotch over the last 10 years that I burned out.

I drank gallons of bourbon in my youth, up until when I met my ex wife. Now that I'm divorced, and live in a singlewide, bourbon makes sense.

I usually use Platypus 500 Ml bags for a 4 day trip. A 5th for 6 days... I don't pack bottles, that would just be stupid. Overnighters, I'll just throw a few good shots into Seal-a-Meals.

A world without whiskey and Gransfors Brux axes is not a world I want to live in. If Travis wants to drink Gin in a floored tent, this is America, he has the right to be gayer than a box full of dicks.

Yes. Nothing funnier than Dan calling something gay.

Heard that on the radio this morning. Part of the reasoning gave in the report I heard was the already mentioned here snorting of the chit!

Knew a guy that was curious why my house felines dug catnip, so he emptied the tobacco out of a Marlboro, and filled it full of cat-meth, and smoked it.

He said there wasn't anything special, but we did have a time getting him to stop grooming his intimate parts.

If the rest of the free world can shove bottles of Everclear up their ass, I should be able to snort some vodka @ 10,000'.

Travis

I agree....

This is bullshit. We got natives snorting bath salts in Dave's neighborhood. If crackers that pay a third of their gross pay in taxes want to snort vodka that should be entirely up to us. This is America for [bleep] sake.

Maybe they're afraid we'd be so wasted all the time that we couldn't support all the professionally worthless schitbags in the country??

I guess I'll stick to my Knob Creek for a while longer.
