Looking at a Patagonia down hoodie or something similar.

Any suggestions?

Mountain Hardwear subzero is the bomb. No hood but so damn warm.

Then it ain't warm. The hooded Montbell is quite nice. Montbell stuff is cut small though. The burly should size up if you can't try it on.
Personally I find a wool beanie and a synthetic neck gaiter more versatile than a hooded jacket.

Patagonia is good on a budget, but if you have the cash or can wait for one to come up used on eBay Feathered Friends brand is top notch.

If you're going ultralight, consider a down quilt that can double as a sleeping system and a sort of poncho.

What's the use?

Temps?

Sweater, jacket, or parka (generally rated in order of warmth).

You ever used a quilt in single digits with only a beanie covering your head?
Take a peek at the First Lite Uncompaghre. It's a good one to have around.
+1 on the Uncomphagre

Good to 32°F with just a wool sweater underneath and they pack ridiculously small and lightweight.

They're so good, I got another one in just pine green color to wear in the city.
Mines been well under 32*F with layers underneath.... Past 0 and still good on multiple occasions.

Not exactly in line with the subject, but I have a Cloudviel hooded jacket with primaloft that just keeps surprising me. Lightweight and amazingly warm through a broad range of temps. Fantastic layering piece or really comfortable by itself.
Live in Western WA where we are having record rainfall so I've never used down much, but this jacket has a very similar feeling to what I call that nice dry warmth that a down jacket gives.
I like the Kuiu Super Down Hoodie.

I own and love lots of Patagonia gear, including a down sweater and down vest.

For a lightweight down hunting hoodie, make mine the Kuiu. Always in the pack.
