any opinions of the springfield xd pistols. i am looking at a xd 9mm with compensator. i mainly fire at the range and carry as protection while doing other outdoor activities. just looking for some input or real world things people have noticed
I have the standard 4" service model (stainless slide) and I find it very accurate and ergonomic. It has been 100% reliable for me thus far. I like pretty much everything about it.

I have a Blackhawk CQC holster for it that is very comfortable - for open carry.
does your XD have a compensator?
No sir. And I don't see much of an advantage for a 9mm.

I think that the recoil of the pistol is actually and aid to rapid, accurate shot placement - with practice/training.

I am not fond of comps for any handgun or rifle. With handguns, the added muzzle flash (straight up in front of your eyes) is a negative. I figure if you need one (on a rifle), then the round is too much for the platform or the shooter. So, as you can see, I am biased against them.

Here it is with a Glock tac light (it's doing duty as a house gun right now):

picking up the xd on monday. i did buy the compensated model. what opinion does anyone have on ammo. looking around at buying some bulk ammo and not sure what to get, any opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Gonna compete with it? any 115 fmj will ring the steel.Bet your life with it? any of the newgen hollowpoints will do.Since your still a newbie and i don't know ya you'll discover most us oldschool sorts prefer something starting with 4 for selfdefense y'know .40sw .44spl 10mm(close enough!) .45colt .44-40 .45long colt...oh? and JMB's perfection .45Acp.
i agree with you on the "something with a 4". i also shoot a glock 32 with a kkm precision .40 barrel. i bought the nine as an addition and it's cheaper to shoot.
