Wondering about accuracy, inc. bbl length please - thanks.

That's one gun I know nothing about, but huntsman22 does.

I'm partial to the first series pistols. But the only MT I've owned was third, And it hung with a High Std. Sharpshooter and S&W 41. Everything else I had were Sports and Targets. I can shoot the longer barrels better.....

I have owned a couple of the newer series Match Targets and I keep an old one for its looks.

Of course they are more muzzle heavy than some other pistols. How would that affect you? My memory says that the bullseye Match Target is not as muzzle heavy as the newer ones and balances better for me. They weigh 2#,3oz.

If the pistol is for competition I would save the money as they are priced higher being collectible. If for looks then you have to get the bullseye/elephant ear grips model. Thats the best looking pistol ever made in my view.



For woods roaming I much prefer a lighter Woodsman.

The Colt Woodsman Match Target is typically capable of accuracy sufficient to shoot a perfect score in Bullseye competition, which means at the very least, it will shoot 10 shots into a 3� circle at 50 yards. Most Woodsman Target�s will do a bit better than that, and often even half that. So that�s about as accurate as most reasonably priced pistols get, meaning you have to spend a LOT of money to get more accurate. Accuracy is one thing you don�t have to worry about with the Colt Woodsman Match Target (or any other target model). If you can outshoot a Colt Match Target, you have arrived.

On the other hand, you can spend a LOT less, and have nearly the same accuracy. Most target style Ruger�s will put 10 shots inside 3� at 50 yards, but few will cut that in half right out of the box (although some will). The Ruger�s trigger isn�t quite as nice, and they certainly don�t look anywhere near as good, but they got it where it counts.

I have shot them. The ones I have shot would not shoot as good as my Smith 41's.

Why the hostility? That wasn�t a worthless post. The Huntsman was a lower quality/feature version of the same gun, and he�s saying that the Huntsman had it where it counts. One could (correctly in this case) infer that if the Huntsman shoots well, the Match Target does also; lighten up.

Every Colt�s Woodsman Match Target I�ve shot could hold its own with the S&W 41, so likely YOU couldn�t shoot the Match Target as well as you could shoot the 41. That�s why different companies make different guns that do the same thing; different strokes for different folks. I too personally prefer the 41 to the Colt�s, but the Colt�s is a fine pistol nonetheless.

I have owned at least 20 or more Colt Woodsman's over the year and halve of them where the Match Targets . I personally believe they are hunting and plinking pistols and not in the same league with the Smith 41. I now have the 4 inch Sports Model. I sent it to Roguard and had the NP-3 Finish applied and a Gold Bead installed in the front sight. This is one of my favorite carry 22 pistol when hunting. My preference in the Woodsman is the 4 inch barrel. I wish Colt would bring back the Woodsman .

That's a good lookin pistol you have there, and NP3 is some good chit.

My Dad has a slabside 6-in. Match Target, used to have some weights or something that could be attached IIRC, but he's lost them.

I once saw him draw and headshoot a running cottontail in the back of its head at 20 yards _ after I missed it with a Model 12!

Kevin, my SS/slab side Comp 6 7/8 w/2x EER Leo put a clip of 10 Mini-Mags into a quarter around 60 yds. Last I got serious, shot about 3/8" at 25, it's a hammer!

Below, one of two mink that I took, let the other go - taxidermist said they normally get about the size of a large fox squirrel, this one was 1.5-2x that size so he mounted it standing up holding a crawfish. 5.5 MkII open sights.

The fox squirrel was w/10" TC bull, killed 5 one afternoon, mostly headshot using a Burris 5x EER.

Bea, you and Huntsman sure know how to make a guy miss the nice little Colt Woodsmans he's known. Haven't regreted selling many of the guns I've sold over the years, but that's one of them. Really like the sights and finish of your pistol. E

I have the third series 6" Colt Match Target and a four inch Sport model. I like both guns but I shoot my S&W 41 heavy barrel better. And to top that I shoot my High Standard GD even better.
All are great shooting guns... you just have to go with the one you fell is best for YOU.

I'd vote if Colt DID do a retro, to do a finish like Bea's or offer SS.

I have a Colt Targetsman with a 6" barrel. Also A high Standard Citation,S&W 22a and a Browning Buckmark. I perfer all of them over anything made by Ruger.
