Looking for recommendations for a high quality shoulder holster for my Kimber 1911 5" barrel. Never had a shoulder holster; however, the vertical carry models seem to be the ones I may prefer. Any thoughts will be sincerely appreciated.

I use Galco's Miami Classic (or some such). Very comfortable. The horizontal carry makes it easier for me to reach the grip. There are potential issues with holstering; gotta be VERY careful to be sure the strap snap catches properly.

I have both the Bianchi X-15 (vertical) & a Galco Jackass horizontal rig; both are good but I prefer the horizontal as I think it's more comfortable.

The vertical holsters with spring reinforcement work well out the front in a quick draw. The horizontal strap models are easy to draw from, but depend completely on the retainer strap. If you are in a coat or vest that covers the chest, you are in trouble in a quick access situation. As mentioned, the Galco Jackass is a good choice. I used the X15 back in the day when Bianchi still sold dirctly to the public. I worked well with a 7 1/2 inch Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum. I got rid of the gun because it didn't have a safe way to load six rounds. Shortly thereafter, Ruger started offering a transfer bar safety. I may be dating myself.

I got to agree with Bob, I've used the Bianchi #X-2000 "Phantom" vertical for more than 25 years. It was and still is a great rig that is very comfortable. I particularly like it when hunting in areas that require a lot of climbing, or are brushy. Just doesn't seem to get in the way or be binding, like some of the others.
