Which would be the best replacement for the Springfield Champion dual Spring recoil system the Wilson Full-Length Guide Rod, Springfield Compact or the Kimber Guide Rod & Plug Pro & Compact? Has anyone replace Champion recoil spring and rod on their Champion pistol?

Wilson.........it comes with the spring & since they are targeting it to your specific model it should be OK.

You'd need to get a spring to go with the Kimber unit.

No real difference other than one comes with the spring (for extra $$) & the other does not.

If you have any issue with it, you'll be happier dealing with Wilson than you will be with Kimber.

Wilson makes a 20 and 22 lb spring that works with the Kimber. I guess you could use a full size spring and cut coils off until it fit.

I don't run any more than 20 lb in Commander sized guns, sometimes even an 18........not big on over-springing, it can create more problems than it solves.

If I'm not mistaken the Champion has a 23 lb from the factory.

I replace the mainspring housing today with the Ed Brown and 19 lb mainspring from Brown. I used a Titanium Cap plug. I don't like the key lock mainspring housing Springfield ships on the their 1911.

I ordered the Wilson full length guide and spring . Will see how it works.

The Champion with ILS uses a 30-lb main spring and an 18-lb recoil spring. Non-ILS uses a 23-lb main spring.

You might be going to far with a 19-lb main spring, as it might need a heavier recoil spring to reduce rearward slide velocity, which in turn increases the slide velocity returning to battery and can beat the pistol. My preference is like MontanaMan mentioned - reduce the recoil spring weight to cut return velocity and ease manual slide handling. Adjust the rearward velocity if necessary by increasing the main spring weight and/or using a flat-bottomed firing pin stop.

Some 1911 manufacturers and shooters overdo the recoil spring to cure pistol problems. I doubt that's necessary with your Champion.

Cutting coils off a spring will reduce its final compression weight...not a good idea to cut....as standard rule if you a 20# spring for a gvt...once you cut 4-5 coils off to make it work in a commander you will now have a 17.5-18lb spring....
