Ive carried my smith mod 29 10.5/8" in a shoulder holster on most of my western hunting trips, up and down many dozens of canyons as its what I carry when packing out meat as a rifle weight and length gets in the way of a 60lb-70lb pack, you certainly don,t want to be un-armed approaching a hanging elk miles into some remote canyon, but you also don,t want to be carrying a rifle on steep slopes if it can be avoided, and yes Ive seen several bears and coyotes on gut piles but all so far left as we returned
the loads always been a 300grn hard cast over 21 grains of H110
its also been used for over a dozen hogs in fla and several deer
Wow, how much does the sherpa charge you to tote that thing when you go pliking?
Just kidding.
My favorite wheelies are the only two revolvers I own: a 7.5" Redhawk .44 and my 3" SP101 that I have dubbed the "Chickenhawk".
The more I shoot either of those (or my wife's .38 Smith) the more I realize I hate chasing brass following an afternoon of shooting semi-auto's.
Here's some I've been enjoying recently:
S&W Model 24-3 3" 44spl
Ruger Flattop stainless 45LC/45ACP and a 5-screw S&W K22:
Another Flattop 45LC/45ACP:

I still wish I had my old Colt Python 8 3/8 all bright Nickel 357. Beautiful and easy to shoot well. SMOOOOOTTTTHHHHH action.
Hope to once again aquire a 329PD again. One of the most useful all around handguns ever, IMO.
Now,
that is my idea of the perfect Bulldog revolver. Sweet.
My old three screw Ruger Blackhawk 4 5/8ths 41 Mag.

OK Friends,
This is really hard for me. I know that without a doubt one is my 6.5" Model 29-2. It was my first Model 29. Life was pretty simple at the time I got it. I never had an issue of which revolver to grab. I had sold my 5.5" SBH and the new (to me) Model 29 was my only centerfire magnum revolver.
I would just grab it and my only big game rifle (a .270) and my bedroll and go hunt. It has logged one hell of a lot of miles on my hip, up and down many, many mountains. It has been right next to my head at night as I slept on the back of my flatbed pickup or under on the ground. It was my do it all outdoorsman revolver for a long time:
Here is where it gets tougher.
I have a 5" 29 Classic that I have spent a lot of time with in the field. Since getting it, the 6.5" 29-2 went into semi retirement. The 5" barrel is just so damn practical. Heck the 5" N frames are NIRVANA to me!
This gun has slayed literally hundreds and hundreds of critters too. It is also featured (along with a couple other .44s I own)in a book on .44s by a gunwriter for American Handgunner and Guns.:
The problem lies in that I had a 5" 29-2 built by SDM Fabricating w/o the full underlug profile of the "Classic" and I feel like I am cheating on a faithful wife when I shoot it instead of my Classic.
Here is the temptress:
This old Model 17 is a favorite .22LR revolver. It shoots with rifle precision and makes me look like a better shooter than I really am:
Favorite Revolvers...
Smith and Wesson Model 18 4" .22 LR

$400-$450 is the going rate around here, but I'd screw around and procrastinate for months until finally paying $50 below average...or $50 above average.
'Tis what I do.
That appears to be an early 66-0 with stainless sights - a rare and fairly collectible version.
Yes it is a 66 no dash 4k54xxx with the correct sights,TT and TH. I think it is a 1973. it is not perfect but it is nice.
I have wanted a revolver for a while and I found this one at a local gunshow a couple of weeks ago.
Almost bought a M28 the day before but by the time I decided, it was gone. I went back the next day and this one had shown up.
As much as I hate to admit it, I have yet to put a round through it. Between work and the weather....
Like McKay, this S&W was at one time the only centerfire revolver I owned. It still shoots well, despite many heavy loads
The big Bruiser:
And this one, which is not very special, except it once converted 3 mean drunks to civility, in my Dad's hands.

Ok, Model 18 and then this mongrel. But I like it a lot. Rebuilt
.44 special and it shoots pretty nice.
Model 63 my son bought for my retirement gift. It's my favorite handgun. I put the Hogue grip on it.
Model 686 with the silhouette adjustable front sight.
Model 629 power port with a Trijicon reflex sight.
I have to admit a soft spot for those old, first model Colt Troopers. Having the lockwork of a Python, they are very sweet revolvers.

Well, I no longer own it, but back int eh 80's I packed a Charter Arms 44 Spcl Bulldog. Shot a very large dog with it, and almost the owner. Dropped it in one shot - there is a story about somewhere around this particular forum. Only thing I ever shot outside a hunting situation/in a Defensive situation.
I also no longer own it, but had one of the S&W 629 Classic Hunters back in the 90's that sure was nice. it had been Mag-Na-Ported, but I could not get too used to those heavy loads pounding the web of my hand. I did not really give it time to develop my shooting skills, and subsequently sold it for Goodness knows what. I do confess openly here, the gun was better than me!
Those are some gorgeous S&W's! I do lust for another N-frame gun, like mayde an early P&R'd 25 in Long Colt, with the gorgeous blue and 6.5" barrel. That jaw-dropping deep blue, combined with the way the barrel tapers just ahead of cylinder and the shroud under there, makes my mouth water and heart skip a beat, it really does
Tell me about that shoulder rig, Travis. I like the looks of it.
It's the Simply Rugged Chesty Puller rig, but the actual holster is a custom that I had a local saddle maker build. He molded it to that revolver, and he did one hell of a job.
I love that rig but I am ordering one of these real soon. I think it will be better for backpacking in general.

I've been carrying my old 1076 around in a Jackass rig I bought several years ago. Haven't carried a shoulder holster in a long time.
The hillpeoplegear looks like a good way to carry inconspicuosly, for sure.
I'm going to take a look at the Chesty Puller rig.
Thanks!
Yes sir.
I have the Simply Rugged sourdough pancake holster for my Flattop. It's good leather for the money FYI.

You can buy the Chesty Puller with "adapters" that allow its use with most other holsters I believe.
Beautiful guns Tony. Did Linabaugh do the 45LC?
ddj
No, Larry Crow of Competitive Edge Gunworks built it. I bought it "used".

Yeah, I bought that for my Flattop originally. But any holster with three slots can be made to work with the Chesty Puller Rig.
