Anyone own a sig carry nightmare? Or smith sc roundbutt. Thoughts and impressions?
I have the S&W..........great pistol, handles very well, very reliable & I am more than happy with it.

It's my everyday carry gun.

I also have a Dan Wesson Guardian which is very similar & it's my 1st alternate carry gun & costs a bit more than the S&W, but I really see no performance difference, just the cosmetic differences.

I'm not a big fan of Sig 1911's, tho I've no reason to believe they are not fine guns as well, just personal preference..........I'm sure you can buy the Sig for less $$$ than the S&W, if that matters to you.

I personally don't care for the Sig's boxy, squared off slides. They do make some models with regular sleek, rounded slides....
3 buddies have the bobtailed Sigs and they have been reliable. I too do not like the boxy slide profile as it necessitates a specific holster. I have 4 other commanders and probably 10 quality holsters for them so the Sig was a no go for me.

I have the S&W version and its my daily CCW. I've only had it for about 6 months and have about 1500 RDS fired. So far it has been flawless and had zero issues.

I also prefer the trigger pull on my S&W.
Thanks for all the replies. The specific holster requirement is a point I hadn't thought of.

Don't let that alone kill the idea of the Sig. Many holstwr makers are now making rigs for the Sig skide profile
MAtter of fact here is an entire theead dedicated to sig 1911 holsters

Sig 1911 holster thread
I cannot warm to the round butted 1911s. I have no doubt that they work perfectly fine, and I understand that some people really like them. It is just me, and my vision of what a 1911 should look like.

I won't hack on folks who like them though. As long as they enjoy them, go for it. I will just stick with traditional 1911s.
Mack, I was like that, too... Until I shot my bro's vbob. I liked it so much I bought the smith PC roundbutt commander, because I couldn't find the DW. And it has a -gasp-, external extractor...

I don't like the looks, feel or balance on the bobtails on a full size 5" gun at all, but I do like them in all respects on the Commander sized guns.

They feel & shoot just right for me on those guns & they do conceal & tend to print just a bit less under light clothing than the sharp, standard butt does, IMO.

It's not THAT big of a deal. My Sig 1911's fit standard 1911 holsters after initial break-in.
I have a chance to pick up a Nightmare Carry locally. I'd really like to know how these 1911's shoot. Does the Nightmare have a match grade barrel?
I don't think it's called out as "match", but that's a relative & a description that many liberties are taken with in its usage.

If you want the gun for self defense, it'll likely be just fine.

While a quality barrel is certainly a necessity for good accuracy, equally so is the fitting of the barrel to the slide, to the bushing, the bushing to the slide & the slide to the frame & link.

If you like it & it fits your hand & eye, buy it.

Thanks MM. I did a trade for it today, cleaned and lubed it, and ran 50 rounds through it. Accurate for self defense, very nice. It can only get better as I break it in. And I already had a Strong holster that fit it, a lovely surprise.
I have been looking at both too. The S&W looks to be the better of the two plus the weight is 8 to 10oz less on the Smith.
Best price i have found on one is here. http://www.tombstonetactical.com/ca...ampion-pistol-45acp-4.25in-8rd-duo-tone/

Just wish the S&W came with night/sights...
The standard version (non-Performance Center) w/o the slide cuts has tritium sights.

If you can't live w/o the VZ Grips of the Performance Center version, you can buy them from VZ.

Standard Version S&W

My gun, 12 rounds as fast as I can shoot & reload at 15 yards.

Love that 1911. Not sure if I like the duo tone like yours or the solid coated.
One advantage to the SS slide is it doesn't show the holster wear on the slide like blued guns do.

After 3 steady years of carrying this gun & in & out of a leather holster, the front edge of the slide is just a bit polished.

The black version does have a Melonited (nitrided) slide so it may be quite a bit better than blue in that respect..........Melonite is pretty tough stuff.
