Will all the Rugers and Smith's be relegated to the back of the safe? Will they be sold?
It's headed this way...
Travis
If the front sight comes off, I just might.
Travis
The box is marked for .44 Special. Kinda muscular for a 44 Spl ain't it???
I think that cartridge in the model 97 will be perfection.
Travis
That is very, very nice. A 45 Colt would have made it perfect.
Excellent, excellent, excellent!!!
Hey Travis!
I for one, think you nailed it with the .44 Speecial!
My Ruger flat top .44 Special 4-5/8" is my all-time favorite big bore single action.
I'm thinking you have one just like it?
The logical next step up is the same gun in a Fredom Arms.
Congrats, and GFY!!!! (GRIN!)
Virgil B.
Nice!
Your still not gonna ditch the 29....
Will all the Rugers and Smith's be relegated to the back of the safe? Will they be sold?
It's headed this way...
Travis
YOU SUCK SERIOUS DONKEY BALLS! That one in a 5.5 inch I would label as the absolute ultimate revolver!
Ive got a sweet tuned, honed and stone 4" Model66 Id be willing to trade...along with a vintage Randall, and my first born male child....
Outstanding! You need a copy of Brian Pearce's article in Handloader on loading the 44spl in the FA 97, it's comprehensive, as always.
Great little gun with some nice options. You might try scoping it one day as the accuracy should be terrific. Check out David Bradshaw's thread at Singleactions forum on shooting the FA 83 in 45 Colt with a 4 5/8" barrel scoped. It's an eye opener.
What leather you going to get for it?
Congrats!
Here's a link to the Brian Pearce article -- lots of great info there.
http://www.goodrichfamilyassoc.org/44_Special_Articles/Brian%20Pearce%20on%20the%2044%20Special.pdfI have a standard butt 5 1/2" FA97 in .44 special -- it's one of the most accurate guns I own. I haven't found a bullet that can't be used in this gun.
Also have a 3 1/2" Round Butt .45 Colt/.45 ACP (was out shooting it w/.45 ACP cyl yesterday) and a 4 1/4" standard butt .45 Colt -- the FA97 is one of my favorites -- every time I pick one up, I just can't keep from smiling.
Enjoy!
Paul
Congrats Travis, I have the same gun in .44 Spl except that it's the regular grip instead of the round butt design.
Complete with black micarta grips, trigger stop, action tune, and the 4.25" barrel. Abslutely easy to carry as a "pack" gun!
Congrats Travis. I like everything about that 97. You will have fun with that.
Purdy, ain't they? I got a M97 in .327 Fed and it's NEVER going to leave my ownership..
Perfect combo. 44 spl will take care of a LOT!
I think that cartridge in the model 97 will be perfection.
Travis
I do too. Congratualtions.
When you get tired of it, I'll give you a new pair of aviators for it.
Is it any smaller/lighter than the .44 mag version?
That looks like a real beauty. I like the 44 SP, shot one for years but if I were spending the money it would have been a 45 LC. I am sure you will love it.
and some, wonder why, we call him the "enabler." Not that anyone ever complained. Quick, wasn't it?
I kid him a lot, but i just had a "couple" of items out polishing them. Do I regret buying them, not a chance.
I believe perfection is God's bailiwick, but that FA 44 Spl, easily resides in a high level of excellence.
Stellar choice!
Will all the Rugers and Smith's be relegated to the back of the safe? Will they be sold?
It's headed this way...
Travis
The only question now, is what kind of gunleather will she ride in?
What have you done?????
....you done good I think! Very nice.
and some, wonder why, we call him the "enabler." Not that anyone ever complained. Quick, wasn't it?
...U talkin' about ME.....I know U talkin' about ME....had notin' to do with it...it aint't even a .41...so don't be disrespecting me....
Bob..."The Enabler"
http://www.goodrichfamilyassoc.org/44_Special_Articles/http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/ross-seyfried-lipseys-ruger-flattop-44-special-bisley-revolvers/
You're gonna love that round butt. It really makes those short barreled FA handle like a dream. Next revolver I buy will be a round butted 97 in 22lr and a 5.5" barrel unless you can't stand that 44. In that case you send me a PM and I will make an exception...
...and just cuz someone shoot my gun I ain't takin' the blame for another mans weakness....
Now I have been know to on occasion point out the benefits of certain guns and calibers...but that doesn't mean anyone has to listen....
Cuz if he had listened heda bought that Model 83/.44 that I found for him too...so my influence can only go so far as a man's willin' to run himself into debt...
Bob
Awesome!!! Great caliber.. Possibly my favorite.. Enjoy!!
Nice
FA's feel like big Swiss watches to me, no slop at all, lovely workmanship
Wow--that's gonna be awesome! Buy once, cry once.
LALALALA,LALALALA. I CAN'T HEAR YOU. LALALALALA......
LALALALA,LALALALA. I CAN'T HEAR YOU. LALALALALA......
thank you for that, but i bet you looked, I did, although i am somewhat ashamed to admit i did.
i hate hate to admit it, but have come close to buying one of those lipsey's more than once.
SWEEETTTTT, the 275 gr Cast Performance WFNGC and 20 gr H-4227 will be your good friends here 'Flave.
Congratulations on a very nice piece.
i hate hate to admit it, but have come close to buying one of those lipsey's more than once.
I just got mine off Gunbroker this week. I bought a 4 5/8" barrel. So far I love it. It is a heavy little chunk, but it shoots so nice.
I'm thinking about gunleather for mine too. Just haven't made up my mind yet. Was about to put an order in for a simply rugged, but I really want a holster and belt rig.
I guess I'll know it when I see it.
Will all the Rugers and Smith's be relegated to the back of the safe? Will they be sold?
It's headed this way...
Travis
Sweet gun, sweeter caliber.........GFY, but enjoy & congrats.
MM
Will all the Rugers and Smith's be relegated to the back of the safe? Will they be sold?

Travis
You already know my answer.
Thanks to everybody for the replies. I was out on the golf course all day.
I have been kicking around a custom like EdM or Whitworth often post. But I had not yet pulled the trigger. After handling RJM's gun (WTF?) I got to thinking that in a .44 Special may be perfection, and also hold resale value if I decided I wanted something different.
I will shoot it a bit before making the final decision but if I like it as much as I predict I will, I'll just sell some other stuff and make this my official go to.
So I don't consider it spending a lot of coin, just shuffling coin that has already been spent anyway. Or somethin'...
Travis

The 97 is considerably smaller than the 83.
Travis
My Ruger flat top .44 Special 4-5/8" is my all-time favorite big bore single action.
I'm thinking you have one just like it?
I do and I doubt I can bring myself to sell it. I'm thinking I will keep all three of my .44 Specials and likely move most everything else.
I have a Delta and a 29-2 that I don't see getting used much any more...
Travis
You already know my answer.
Yeah. I PM'd you, Whitworth and jwp as I was considering this.
RJM sent me the link to this one when it came available. I'd not have done anything different other than added the trigger tune.
Should work out well.
Travis
Nice
FA's feel like big Swiss watches to me, no slop at all, lovely workmanship
That's how I described them to my dad. Like a tank fugged a Swiss Watch and the FA is the spawn.
Travis
The only question now, is what kind of gunleather will she ride in?
I use this guy's shoulder rig and I'm going to ask him to make a holster for it.
http://www.montanaholster.com/Then I'm going to ask Milt Sparks if he'll make an IWB for it. I'm sure he will.
Travis
Travis, that is sweet looking iron there.
Is it a coincidence, Bob passed through our camps and new revolvers start following us home.
Nope, I can not really blame my latest acquisition on Bob. My newest is a Ruger in 327. And Bob did not set that example.
You guys need to learn how to ignore the enabling bastid. In my case it's easy.......
There is a certain mystique inherent to the 44 Special that the Bourgeois can't comprehend.
Guess since you went all red cloth you don't need that cheapo mould I was going to send you....
And if you don't send me the 29-2 I at least deserve a reach around....
There is a certain mystic inherent to the venerable 44 Special that the Bourgeois cannot comprehend.
It's all I need.
Travis
Guess since you went all red cloth you don't need that cheapo mould I was going to send you....
And if you don't send me the 29-2 I at least deserve a reach around....
Yours if you want it. I gotta shoot up what I got loaded first though.
Travis
Yes I do....shoot up the rest, will give me time to save up. Don't gouge...
I assume you'd like some lead?
Poured 250 more today....gonna ship out a big, heavy ass box when I get them gizzed up....
Tough to top that one, Travis - I'll look forward to hearing more on it. I have the stainless 4-5/8 version of the Ruger flat top 44 spl and it's a keeper, but that FA 97 could easily replace most of the handguns I have. I have a FA 83 and love it, but feel they really nailed it with the 97...
Get the Milt's. I've been wearing them for years, with a couple different calibers. You have to carry and wear them in a bit, but them you just don't even feel them after a while. It's like you have another wallet on you.
That's a good looking iron.
.44 Special is probably the perfect big bore revolver cartridge. Back in the early 60's when Keith/Jordan/Skeeter were pushing for a .40-41 Police round if the ammo companies had just done as Keith recommended and put a 250 grain SWC in place of the 246 LRN and bumped the velocity up to 950-1000 from a 4" gun it would have been a done deal...and no need for the .41 Magnum.
The guns were already there...the 1950 Outdoorsman and the .38/44 HD Model of 1950.
The FA 97 is the perfect size for the .44 Special but was the last centerfire round chambered for it. First ones were .357 and .45 Colt, then .41 Magnum and .32 H&R Magnum....the .44 Special seemed to be an afterthought. Yet of the larger caliber rounds it is the only one that can take all bullets made as with the .357/.41/.45 Colt the cylinder is too short even for a Keith bullet or long nosed LBT if crimped in the standard crimping groove just like the S&W Model 27 is in .357 Magnum...
The only "problem" (if you want to consider it a problem) with the FAs guns is that the chambers are so tight and leads into the forcing cones so short that some cast bullets (like a wide front driving band Keith and some LBTs) can't be seated in the chambers. In my two .41s a real Keith 220 grain will not seat but the Lyman version that has a front driving band just a little narrower will. So it is something to consider before buying a bullet in bulk...
Glad to help you find what you were dreaming about Travis....hopefully on my next trip out west we can shoot again...
Bob
Yes I do....shoot up the rest, will give me time to save up. Don't gouge...

We'll take it off the top of the 29.

I'll just crimp over the front driving band and add more powder.
Travis
...I thought it was supposed to be the other way around...less powder...not more...
But since it is a FA it really won't make any difference...
Bob
The mould you're getting will fit....kind of funny you got a 44 Special. Its probably going to work killer...but you'll have to wait for Christmas...
Sweet gun Travis! I figured you would be showing pics of a new toy soon after reading Bob's thread.

Christmas? I'll be in Poland this Christmas.

Sweet gun Travis! I figured you would be showing pics of a new toy soon after reading Bob's thread.
It's UBER. I'll bring it to Poland.
Travis
Congrat's on the FA wheelgun, Travis!
That looks SWEET.
I'd still like to get one of the M83's in .475.
Load it full tilt? ummmm...probably not
Will all the Rugers and Smith's be relegated to the back of the safe? Will they be sold?
It's headed this way...
Travis
The only thing I don't like about the FA revolvers is the grip frame shape, just doesn't feel right in my hand...REALLY wish it did. Because if it did, I'd have the EXACT same revolver. You're going to have a lot of fun with that one! VERY nice sir.
I'd still like to get one of the M83's in .475.
Load it full tilt? ummmm...probably not
tex,
check your PMs
Paul
I have an 83 in 454, about 20 of those at full tilt is about all of the fun I can stand. A 360 gn WNFP at 1000fps will go through anything I have shot with it.
Congrat's on the FA wheelgun, Travis!

Hope she shoots!

Christmas? I'll be in Poland this Christmas.
Travis
Since you'll be in Milwaukee or Chicago, stop by....
Naw, I have a 214gr. wadcutter/hermaphrodite LEE mould for you, for Yom Kippur.
You want 400-500 Hornady 240gr. swaged jobs?
Neal said I should give them to you, so they're yours if you want 'em.
Have 200 WFNGC, 250-K, 280 WFN, 280 LFNGC, 300 WFN, 300 WLNGC and 350WLNGC for Ube 44 moulds....just need throat/fit diameter...and hardness you want.

Have you ever shot a round butted FA? Buddy had a round butted 5 1/2" mdl 83 that IMHO was perfection in a single action. One of the guns I've regretted not buying when I had the chance.
Anyone who enjoys shooting revolvers should treat themselves to at least one FA in their lifetime.
Awesome freedom Flave! You'll love it. If its anything like the many I've owned it will shoot. All of mine have been extremely accurate.
Very nice Travis!
What's the weight?
Leo

Let me see if the 250-K's shoot. But I think 280gr WFN's would be UBER.
Travis
Very nice Travis!

Leo
The website says 37 ounces.
Travis
All of mine have been extremely accurate.
It fuggin' better be...
Travis
Surely between the 250's and the 280's you should be set.
I'm really enjoying my Bisley.
The only mold I use now is the 250 K. It's UBER.
Travis
Done? I think you have done good!
I can't wait to fill its chambers.
Travis
Forget pics, Flave.
I want video when it comes in.
Sweet grab but your killin me here. Got rifles I don't shoot much...might have to be trippin' some to get me a really nice wheeler.
Can't decide between a FA or sending a Ruger to the likes of Bowen or Reeder...
(If I went FA I'd probably just go .454 and shoot Colts in her. I Flirted with the idea of a .475 but that may be too much of a good thing)
Might add..
Make sure and give your input n e round butt configuration. Methinks that might be ber...
The round butt is uber. Very uber. Extremely uber.
I also wanted a custom Ruger, but (for now anyway) decided on this. Mostly because it is simply everything I want in a single action six gun. The Ruger's are nice, but if I were to sell one, I'd lose my ass. In my opinion the FA is a safer bet, and hopefully just as accurate.
I really like those 83's, but I needed something that I could carry all the time, and so when RJM e-mailed the link to this 97, I caved.
If I ordered an 83 it would be in a .44 Mag and round butt and the black micarta. I'd also go 6"-ish more than likely.
Travis

...or have him stand near the Longhorns during fly season...one swipe and he'll be singing soprano...
So Travis when does this badboy arrive???
Since .44s never shoot as well as .41s don't expect the same miracles you had shooting my gun....
Bob
If it makes ya start feeling all misty-eyed and stuff, someone will step up to punch you in the cock...
God I hope so.
Travis
I don't know. I mailed the money last week, so whenever the shop gets around to sending it I guess.
41 almost equals 44. Almost...
Travis
The best thing about these revolvers is that it is like having one more shot than the cylinder holds. After you have missed with the cylinder full, you can still throw the gun at it...
I just noticed you got a round butt.
I just noticed you got a round butt.
That's no secret, it is from sitting on a bucket...
Travis,
Your FA M97 in 44spec weighs less than my 4" GP100 in 357mag! Should be a nice packing handgun!
Leo
Yes, I had my Ruger Redhawk 44mag sent to Bowen for some work.
Guessin' I'd not likely see a return on my investment on it.
Plus I ordered a Milt Sparks holster for it, so I'm almost married to this Redhawk, lol!
I bet she shoots too!
Travis

Yes, and they certainly are better. My issue is how far the grip frame is from the trigger, just feels awkward in my hand. The Ruger Bisley grip frame feels perfect to me...and I like those to be subtly round butted also.
Still, Travis has exquisite taste in revolvers. That is one sweet honey of a revolver right there!!
Hey Travis, here is mine. Ivory micarta
Schit.
Now I want ivory micarta.
Travis
I can't wait to fill its chambers.
Travis
It's not a chick.
Gruff could be our token homosexual.
Travis
There ya go....
Do you have any 280's left?
How many, dammit.....I have a life, you know. And needs.....
If you getting all intimate with an FA gets me closer to a 29-2, 4 inch on the cheap, I'm nutted up to make some bullets......
I loaded all those up for the Blackhawk. Probably have about 50 left to shoot?
Travis
I need to see what shoots well'est in the FA before I place an order anyway.
Travis
Okay.
NatewayUSA.com anxiously awaits your order.....
Been wanting one of those for a long time...won't happen soon though.
Thinking about getting a flattop Ruger for now, what kind of loads you running in it?
Been wanting one of those for a long time...won't happen soon though.

7.0-7.5gr's of Unique and whichever 240gr-260gr semi-wadcutter I'm shooting at the time seems to work great.

Travis, I been watching this thread for a few days and can not hold my peace any longer, you need fair warning.
While I can certainly be happy for you over the recent purchase of your new FA 97, the impending sale of your Model 29 will come with disaster following.
When a man sells or trades a Model 29 it starts an immediate chain reaction of events and physical manifestations.
First thing you will notice is a huge drop in testosterone. You will find yourself loosing confidence in situations that you had formerly been able control thru sheer maleness.
Women will no longer turn and check you out as you walk by.
When you are gathered together with Gun Cranks and you mention that you once had, but traded a Model 29, they will all look at the ground, cough and scuff their feet trying to hide their embarassment for you.
Your vision will get worse, stock up on reading glasses.
It will be hard to keep from gaining weight, extra pounds will settle in the back of your pants.
Other "Gun Guys" will start referring to you as "that boy who got rid of his 29".
Instead of going on a solo archery interior Grizzly hunt you will find yourself planning a game farm axis deer hunt so you can get in some shopping with your trip.
These are just a few of the sort of things that you bring on to yourself by letting a Model 29 out of your grasp.
The Proud Recipient however, will notice as he grasps for the first time his new prize. There are more veins showing in his forearms, his countenance will be as a bird of prey. Stern, broad shouldered, sharp vision. There is more than a transfer of ownership that goes along with a Model 29, There is a transfer of POWER! It is rather like counting coup, but with visible results.
While I am a big fan of the Wyoming school gun building and the extreme quality of their wares, I will remind you that John Linebaugh himself carries a Smith and Wesson for his daily carry gun.
Remember this, if you ever want back your former standing after selling a Model 29, it can only be regained by acquiring an Model 25.
Proceed with caution.

This post caused me to not only reconsider the sale of that firearm, but my entire life as well.
Thank you sir. You may have saved me.
Travis
PS- Don't let Hawk know you wrote that.
...in case you forget I told you the same thing...at minimum you could "replace" the 29 with a 629 Mountain Gun but one should NEVER be without a good S&W N-frame...not and still be able to call himself a man that is...
Bob
...and as I recall your reply back to me was "I could do everything I need to do with a revolver with the FA 83 and 97...".

I changed my mind on that.
Travis
I got it. These things truly are amazing.
The 280gr. LBT's are a no go. The Keiths show lots of promise. I think I may need a taller front sight though.
Travis
Great!....and the pic where?

That is the longest post Ive seen Downstream make.

He doesn't speak often, but when he does, it is about N-Frames...
When Downstream speaks, I listen.
Subject is not important.

Deal.
Right after everybody tags out....
Travis
If it makes ya start feeling all misty-eyed and stuff, someone will step up to punch you in the cock...
God I hope so.
Travis
Didn't they have any Men's revolvers left??
FAs should be 83s in 45. Just sayin.
Yep! Just a couple years ago
The 250's shoot too high?
What size sizer die do you have?
There are always ways.....
Yep! Just a couple years ago
I hear ya Keith.
One of those Lil FAs might be fine for a Lady's purse gun but I sure wouldn't pack one out in the rough stuff.
Darn .44 Special is liable to bounce back and take your eye out.
Burns,
That 83 matches your forehead!
Travis

I have a 431 and 429 I think.
I already ordered another front sight.
Nothing like tacking another $23.00 onto the price tag.
UBER stupid.
Travis
You're getting a .43O.....and a mould, and whatever the hell bullets you're ordering from NateWayUSA.
23 bucks for a steel front isn't bad, price one for a Redhawk.
P.S. You're shopping cart is empty.....
Burns,
That 83 matches your forehead!
Travis
Ha, it is not a .50 cal.
454 be the bomb travis...gfy
Schit.
Now I want ivory micarta.
Travis
Nah, you want the contrast of black with white, kinda like Bricktop.
Ha, it is not a .50 cal.
Well played...
GFY... grin.

They're definitely the cheapest way into a FA I'll tell you that.
Travis

Them ivory's look good.
But I like the way the black ones feel in my hand.
(Knock it out of the park)
Travis
I will shoot it a bit before making the final decision but if I like it as much as I predict I will, I'll just sell some other stuff and make this my official go to.
Travis
That's a plan.....
Here's mine....44 on the left, 357 on the right....THe 44 may be making the trip back for a bobbed barrel and roundbutting....
The 44 likes 5.6gr WW231 under the swaged Hornady 240 SWC and 15.0gr 2400 under the leadhead 255gr Keith bullet....
Tom,
Are those 83's or 97's? Those octagon barrels are cool.
Travis
Those are 97s....
My friend in Texas ordered a gun just like your .44 Special but with an octagon barrel. It should be in about Thanksgiving. He had a second cylinder fitted that is going to be rechambered to .44 Magnum so he can use his 1000 fps lead reloads in case of emergency.. Mr. Baker said it would be fine but they would not factory cut the chamber in .44 Mag.
Bob
Has anybody ever used the 200gr. XTP's on critters?
Travis
As RJM says, they are 97's....The octagon barrel is nice. The ultimate would be a 44 w/ 4-1/4" octagon barrel, roundbutt w/ ivory micarta....
You have entered the realm of precision built revolvers, there is no turning back.
The ultimate would be a 44 w/ 4-1/4" octagon barrel, roundbutt w/ ivory micarta....
I'm thinking I agree with you.
Travis

I had my son compare the FA with a Flattop last night. When I told him to try and move the cylinder of the FA he said "Holy crap!"

Travis
Freedom Arms' charge for installing an octagon barrel on a 97 is very reasonable.
If you say so. I've never looked anywhere else.
Travis
...$813...plus shipping to and from....grips would be another $334.00....
So you would be into the gun for $3400....
Better to order a new one and sell this one when the 14 month wait is up...
Bob

That's comparable to an octagon barrel, line bored 5-shot conversion on a Ruger, once you factor in the base gun.
This thing shoots like a mofo. I don't have time to wait for the new front sight so loaded up some 200gr. XTP's and 8.0gr's of True Blue. They shoot UBER to the 100.
I think I'll load up a couple hundred and slum jacketed bullets until the end of the season.
Travis
..order a new gun and save $600....total would be about $2850.00.
I can't afford any more front sights.
Travis
I think you will find no matter what you feed this gun it is going to shoot great....
..order a new gun and save $600....total would be about $2850.00.
Less than $50 a month if the wait is 14 months for a new one. I have read that FA's turn around time on alterations to existing guns is quite fast; one reason I'm searching for a 97 in 32 H&R rather than ordering one in 327: I can likely get a new cylinder fitted in far less time than I would spend waiting for a new gun.
Turn-around time is two-three weeks. I saw their gun vault when I was there a few weeks ago...tons of rack space and about 10 guns...
Mr. Baker told me that alterations get first priority as they don't want an existing customers gun in the shop any longer than necessary..so all go to the head of the line.
bob
...there was a 7.5" .327 on GunBroker a few months ago...it sat there for about two weeks before someone bought it for $1900.00.
I think you will find no matter what you feed this gun it is going to shoot great....
+10.....Mine certainly do....

I am now convinced that Chuck Norris only took that name because DOWNSTREAM was taken!!!

pretty good deal on a M83 in .44 mag, here - modest opening bid, and no reserve:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=449061935
Yep. Seems to be about the best price you get on one in that chambering.
Travis
This post caused me to not only reconsider the sale of that firearm, but my entire life as well.
Thank you sir. You may have saved me.
Travis
PS- Don't let Hawk know you wrote that.
I'll take it!!!
The grips alone are worth $300.00.
Travis
It doesn't matter the cost, you got an immediate sale here. I am on the phone with a certain classifieds advisor, coaching me on this trade/purchase. Are you still interested in the Avalanche?
I'm still researching the winch setup. I'll let you know.
Travis
I must have misread something, I thought it said "wench"...

Is this the part where I whine, complain and get butt-hurt?
Is this the part where I whine, complain and get butt-hurt?
No.
This is the part where I cash both money orders and keep the 29.
Travis
That's an Avalanche of hilarity, but it would it would be better if you'd at least throw in a CD or two.....
PS: I sent the MO two weeks ago; must be the Post Office....
Here's something to hold you over while you wait Travis. Grasshorn made the elk antler grips for mine, a .45 Colt.
Just curious, what kind of wait time does the factory quote these days? My wife got one earlier this year and it took about 11 months.
And BTW, if you're looking for a holster you probably can't do better than the factory holsters that FA offers. Good price, and they fit perfectly. I got one from El Paso Saddlery and it didn't fit very well, then ordered one from FA and it's great.
Factory wait time is 15-18 months for new guns.
That is a excessively nice hogleg. Love the grips.
McCinnis,
That's beauty.
I should have been more clear in my posts, but this one was already built and sitting in a gun shop in SD. The guy that ordered got cold feet once it arrived so I was able to buy it for retail, minus what they had him put down on the order. He must be a long lost relative because aside from his not ordering the 3lb trigger job, this is exactly how I would have ordered it. Not sure how a trigger job adds an extra $100.00 to the price of a $2K revolver, but that's another matter...
I have about 150 rounds through it now and it is shooting really well. It's amazing what can happen when you combine a shooter as great as I am, with a handgun as great as the 97.
Here are some pics of it now that it's in my hands:
For Leather I went with another holster from Norm. His Montana Shoulder Rig is simply a great design. As much as I love the EPS Tanker, I like Norm's holsters a little better. I think his pricing is fair and not to mention as long as he "has the gun by 10 in the morning, you'll have it back by 5 so you can head on back to Havre." He's a great guy to do business with.
The crossdraw holsters on FA's website are tempting. But I rarely (very rarely) wear an OWB belt holster. I called Milt Sparks and they do have a mold for the 4 1/4" 97 so I will be ordering a Summer Special or Cruiser or whatever the fugg they call them next week.
Travis
Nice holster; looking forward to seeing some pictures from the field.
Travis,
That is one hell of a nice rig, sir.
I've held off posting pics of my new-to-me 1993 NIB case colored Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt because every time I look at your FA 97 I start droolin'... and that's not so good for my bank account.
No flies on that sixgun! My brother has the same gun. Accurate as hell too.
You do deserve an FA though...
Travis
That is a .beautiful gun, and I love 44 Specials, but for me there is only one single action handgun and it comes in 44 Special to boot.
.
Awesome rig you've got there Travis..
jbmi, that SAA looks great..
I do believe you have planted the first seed of FA enablement on me with that 97 of yours. That is just plain knockout perfection.
Here's a quick pic of my lowly new-to-me NIB unfired case colored 1993 Old Vaquero in 45 Colt.
I've been diligently looking for her sister.

Damn LD, that thing is brand new ain't it/
What's her sister look like?
Travis

You need to shoot it!
Travis
Yep, she's brandy spanking new.
Been looking hard to try and find a match for her. Every time I find one similar, there's something wrong. Shorter barrel, been beat up, or other stuff. Found one the other night that looked pretty good, but had a rust spot on the bottom right section of the frame.
I'll find a matching one eventually. In the meantime, I'm gonna shoot the hell out of this one!
You get the new front blade yet?
The original shorter front blade may work well for long distance shooting...
Very nice looking holster....
The receptionist at FA told a few weeks ago that they are 14 months backed up on new gun orders...
So now when do you get the matching 83....that one on GunBroker may go cheap...my guess is $1650-1725.
Bob
No front sight yet. But I am pretty sure it will work well for everything.
No idea why they chose the sight height they did.
Travis
deflave,I just knew you had a soft spot for Colts. :>)
You need to shoot it!
Travis
I agree......
We need dead paint can pics...
This sumbitch is shootin' UBER.
Thank you to whoever recommended 4227.
New front sight has cured all. I may have to stop in there and give a lesson on the .44 Special next time I drive through Wyoming.
Travis
Gunner is the 4227 pontificate.
You now need a high polish on it, ivory grips and I'll send you a Colonel Sanders outfit, complete with 44 Special cufflinks.
You'll make shrap look like a peasant......but he's still gonna tell you your stainless gun sucks!
I was thinking of having it cerakoted olive drab.
Travis
That's so WWII. I thought FDE was the new olive drab.
deflave,I just knew you had a soft spot for Colts. :>)
I do kinda like the single actions.
Travis
The cylinder on this fugging thing probably wouldn't even rotate if you sprayed it.
Travis
Did you buy it from First Stop Guns? They are right across the street from my office. Nice revolver!
Bob
