I just bought a 10 mm, a Glock 20 SF. I wanted the gen 3, but all they had was the SF. The price was right.

I got a Gen 3 myself yesterday. Your assignment is to shoot some Underwood 180 grain loads and report back please.
Posted By: K1500 Re: 10 mm auto - 11/11/14
G20 SF is a gen 3. Do you mean you wanted a gen 4?
Posted By: viking Re: 10 mm auto - 11/12/14
Nope the non SF model.
Posted By: justin10mm Re: 10 mm auto - 11/12/14
I don't think they make the standard gen3 frame anymore. Only the SF and gen4.
Posted By: K1500 Re: 10 mm auto - 11/12/14
The G20 gen 3 and the G20 SF share the same feature set. Gen 3 is finger grooves and rails with a single recoil spring. The SF has all that with a slightly shorter frame. Gen 4 is adjustable backstrap, dual recoil springs, reversible mag catch, etc. I would consider the SF to be a gen 3, but maybe not.

In any event, I have the G20 SF myself and it is a great gun. After holding the non SF and the SF I can't imagine anyone picking the non-SF version unless they had hands like Lou Ferrigno, and even then I don't see it. Underwoods is good stuff, and the winchester 175 grain load is a pretty potent carry load. Federal makes a hunting load that is truly full power. I want to try it but haven't found any in stock.

I prefer the non-SF version, as it handles and points properly. The SF frame is just and odd duck.

Congratulations! I think you will like the gun and especially the caliber. There are some handload formulas that will push a 180gr bullet the same speed that a 6 inch 357 pushes a 125.

I have a standard frame Gen 3, wish I'd gotten an SF. Haven't handled one, but the regular frame is large and rather clunky. That I have gotten used to, but after mostly shooting Ruger Blackhawks for a week or two, the trigger on the Glock is trully horrible.
Posted By: justin10mm Re: 10 mm auto - 11/12/14
I sincerely hope Glock does not discontinue the Gen3 because I have zero interest in ever owning a Gen4 which was an answer to a nonexistent problem IMO.
Posted By: viking Re: 10 mm auto - 11/12/14
I was watching some utube channel guy last night, he said that Glock is discontinuing the Gen 3, however they will make the SF and Gen 4. I haven't verified that.

The gen 3 s can be hard to find, but there is a shop in Georgetown that had one not to long ago 549 if I recall.

180 gr at 1500 fps. Never happen. The 135 and 155 yes but not the 180.

I miss my Glock 20 terribly...............

The SF is the only way to go with the Glock 20 , you will like it

So what after market barrel is the best, 6 inch.
Posted By: RoninPhx Re: 10 mm auto - 11/14/14
I have a KKM six inch for my 20, but don't use it much. I use the regular length KKM barrel mostly.

My bet would be the fitted Bar-Sto barrel for "best." The KKM should be a drop in and by all accounts is excellent. I'm slumming the factory Glock barrel right now but it seems adequately accurate and has been 100% reliable. I've been considering the KKM of around factory length for the ability to accurately handle heavy hardcast lead bullets.

I originally had a Lone Wolf 6" barrel, had problems with it. Tim Sundles of Buffalo Bore told me to only use Glock barrels in Glocks, said all his 10mm loads were originally worked up in a G20. I switched to a 6" Glock "Hunter" barrel, and have had no barrel related problems since. I was also told that Hard Cast bullets should not be considered "lead" , as they are an alloy that does not lead barrels as badly - and I shoot both Buffalo Bore and Double Tap HC in my G20.

I was looking for the best hunting/performance barrel. I think the G20 6 inch fits the bill. I might even get a 357 sig barrel for options.

As far as powder goes I know guys here like accurate 9, but I haven't seen any for a while. I do have #7 though and 200 grain XTP hps.

Lets see some some recipes.

I've had exceptional luck with 40 S&W loads and Longshot. Hodgdon's 10mm data looks good there as well. Longshot has been consistent very in the 40 from weak loads to serious hammers.

The SF and non-SF frames are both Gen3. No SF for the gen4, because the gen4 frame is already shortened like the SF.

^ this is what I said earlier but....

No there are not! Not at any pressure close to safe. I have chronographed BB factory 158'out out of my model 19 6" at 1400 FPS and that is faster than a 38,000 PSI loaded 10mm 180 grain bullet. A 125 grain in a 357 is even faster.
