Been wanting a Ruger Vaquero in .45 LC for a while and ran across one and to boot it is a Davidson's exclusive "Montado" model.
3.75 inch barrel,wider checkered hammer,and beveled cylinder.

Only thing I didn't care for was the look of the ejector rod so I called Ruger and they sent me the crescent style one for free.

Also it's a little hard to find a holster for a 3.75 inch barrel so I made one out of an old holster I had.

Sweet - that's a nice looking shooter right there. Does it shoot to POA with your preferred load?

couple of days ago i loaded up some .41MAGNUM. 270 grain bullet moving around 1000fps. Then i got to thinking of a 125 year old bullet. Wait. It can't be? A .45colt 270saa moving at 1000fps with less blast, less powder, and a lot easier to shoot.
We have come so far, and gained so little.
Those vacqero's are H*ll for strong.
I don't know anything one would want to do with a handgun that a .45colt properly loaded in one of those won't take care of.

Love the Montado and a fine job on the holster.

tominboise, haven't got out to shoot it yet,right after I got it I slipped getting out of an icy skid loader and fell into the bucket onto my left shoulder and of course I shoot left handed..lol another few days and I'll be back to getting my arm straight out again,will let you know how it shoots.

The new Vaqueros are not as big as the original version. They recommend staying within the loads suitable for the Colt SAA and clones.

Yeah I knew that....really not a big deal for me I'm fine with the factory stuff,really wasn't looking to use any +P hard core stuff

I have 3 "Old" Stainless steel Vaqueros, 2 in 45Colt and one in .44Mag. The .44mag in a 5.5" barreled Bisley, One 45Colt is a standard 4.75" and the other 45Colt is a 4.75" Bisley.

I've load both of the Bisleys up with "elephant" rounds pushing 300g cast bullets and while they are accurate after about 12 rounds at 1250+ fps...... the fun is gone. With more moderate loads they are pleasant all day shooters and more accurate than I am, especially when reaching out to those longer distances of 200 yards and beyond.

They are bigger and blocky than the "New" models and I would never sell/trade any of them

brian pearce had an article in handloader a few years ago talking about the new vacquero. It certainly can't be pushed as hard as the old one, but he did list loads above those standard for the old colts etc.
I have a couple of boxes of the big ones from buffalo bore i must have bought ten years ago for a trip into colorado, still haven't used them.
250grains at 950 to 1000 fps works mostly for me, except i do love that 270grain saa scovill bullet.

That, sir, is a nice looking revolver and your instinct on the ejector looks sharp as heck. Nice.

Nice looking pistol and a great job on the holster! Like you, I keep my eye out for the right one, but it hasn't come along yet.
