BHP vs Glock 17/19? Which and why?

Glock, because KevinGibson has wood for the BHP and that's creepy.

19, because awesome.

Hard to not like a BHP.

But I'd still pick a Glock.
Posted By: K1500 Re: EDC carry, 9x19 choice - 05/11/15
I have a BHP and. g17 and as much as I like the BHP, it is the Glock that gets used the most by far.
Posted By: MontanaMan Re: EDC carry, 9x19 choice - 05/11/15
The G-19, because I don't have a BHP; but generally pick a 4.25" 1911 over the G-19 & will take either any day over the BHP if I did have one.

MM
19

BHP feels too fat in my hand.

Mine is a Gen 3

G19 because I've never owned a BHP.

Like we talked about earlier, I'd run with the G19.

They are about to become like Jeeps and Ruger 10/22's. Every third website has ten jillion aftermarket parts for them. They will run box stock if you want them to. They are relatively inexpensive for what you get. You will have 16 rounds of ammunition on board (as long as you live in America)

Holsters abound.

Because your extra magazine will fit a G17 and hold another 17 rounds.

Other reasons too numerous to mention.

BHP, especially if you carry 1911s. 16 rounds with an aftermarket mag. Funny trigger pull to get used to, compared to a good 1911 but easy to learn with practice. It's functionally an all steel Commander in 9x19, just slimmer and high capacity.

Can't argue with the Glock choice but it's not always the automatic answer for everybody's EDC.
I've never been a big Hi-Power fan. I've owned a couple, but in my personal experience, I've never found one that was 100 % reliable with anything but FMJ ammo.
I'm much more of a 1911 fan, but if I could only buy one 9mm Pistol, for a CCW it would be without a doubt a Glock 19.

I might add that I'm currently packing a new Glock 43 in 9mm for my primary CCW, while I'm running errands here in town. I live in a really low crime area, so I'm pretty confidante with it's 7 round capacity and one spare mag. But then I usually have a BUG in my left hand jeans pocket. Either a 5-shot J-Frame snub nose or my little Ruger LCP 380.

But if I had to make a run to DFW, San Antonio, Austin or Houston area, then i'm packing my Glock 32. It's the same size as a Glock 19, but in .357 sig caliber.

Glock 19...

Have had several BHPs over the years and while a beautifully made pistol I don't care for the size or shape of the manual safety, or the aftermarket ones, and unlike the 1911 the safety doesn't have a positive "on" and "off".

That and the short tang allows too much hammer bite...

And have to agree with CHL...shot my 19 yesterday for the first time with the 23 slide and.357 SIG barrel...all I can say is WOW.

For daily carry would prefer a 1911 Commander in .38 Super or 9mm over either...

G19 because it is a lightweight, well designed pistol, and the BHP is an outdated, overweight, hunk of schit.

I traded into a nice Belgian High Power about 10-15 years ago. It was pretty but I did not like the way it shot. I traded out of it. I really did not like the dinky safety. I agree it's old technology, but I could make do with it if I had to. Fortunately, I have the G19 so I do not have to.

Browning HP are beautiful pistols but never owned one that was reliable with HP Ammo, Glock 19 or even better the Glock 32 in 357 Sig.

BHP over the Glock for almost every reason I select a handgun - ability to hit with speed, reliability, function, form, and history.

However, unlike some factory pistols the BHP (Mk III) would need different sights and a ring hammer. That would add to the difference in cost, but so be it.

I have Browning HP pistols and a Glock 19. For a 9MM though, my hands down favorite is the CZ 75D PCR compact. I think it's simply a better choice.
Reliable, accurate, very ergonomic, and I shoot it better than the others.

Well, huh. That makes 12 votes for the Glock, 2 votes for the Hi-Power, and of course, Mannlicher's usual spoiler vote (CZ).

Make mine lucky number 13 for Glock.

i own all 3.

love my hi power very deeply, but the 19 is it, and i carry mine alot.

Glock. And I prefer the 17. I can hide it as easy as the 19.
For the common guy the BHP is overpriced and there's much less part and accessory support.

One the other hand one can pick up dept trade in glocks for reasonable prices and condition.

Personally I find the glock 17 to fit my larger hands better and I can use it accurately. The glock 23 is also my carry weapon and folks with smaller stature and hands may like this better.

For the average person the glock 23 is perhaps the best choice for size, carry ability, and economics. Its the one that can use 40, 9mm, and 357 Sig conversion.

I can appreciate the BHP for it place in history, but for the dollar spent its difficult to go against the glock. Especially if you can find and nice trade in for an good price.

Another vote for the Glock 19. I carry mine every day.
Posted By: jstall Re: EDC carry, 9x19 choice - 05/13/15
I have a Hi Power that shoots anything you put in it, but my daily carry gun is a Glock 19. It's just hard to beat it's size and capacity.

I'll throw another vote towards the Glock landslide election.

I could easily become a BHP collector, dump a fortune into the variants as well as customization, and enjoy every minute of range time with them. But I'd still carry a G17/19, no question.

The Glock 19. It is lighter, more rust resistant, simpler manual of arms.

I do like the BHP grip better than any other nine. The safety not so much. It is not positive enough for me.

Glock 26 or 19.
Posted By: dodgefan Re: EDC carry, 9x19 choice - 05/14/15
I'm with Mannlicher on the CZ, choosing between those 2 only I'd take the Glock and learn to live with it (never like it though).
Posted By: tjm10025 Re: EDC carry, 9x19 choice - 05/14/15

Glock 19, because the handful of people I know who truly do know WTF they're doing would carry that in preference to the BHP.

Having never shot anyone, I must rely on advice from others.

Glock 19! I don't like hammers on my CCW's.

+1 BHP's are great but Kevin Gibson sucks so I'd go with the Glock.

Not an answer to your question but...IMO if carrying a near full-size service pistol, there are even better choices. Obviously concealment would be somewhat of a concern, so why not go with something a bit smaller and get a SIG P228 or a Smith M&P Compact?
