1937 with a little modification
Gorgeous pistols, boys. I like 'em all. Of course, that has been an affliction of mine for as long as I can remember.

Here are my two 45ACP's, love the round.

I guess cutting down the barrels on 1917's was a common thing back in the day. Mine has been like that for a long time.

New school (sans Balvenie):

So for the guys who have original 1911's and 1911A1's - do you have a hollowpoint load that works in an unmodified gun?

My Sistema pictured above shoots fine with ball, but wants nothing to do with any hollowpoint load I've tried. No intent to use it for serious defense, but it might be used on critters.

Here are mine.

As to the unmodified 1911s and HP rounds, they work ok with the 230gr loads and smaller holes, but they flat won't feed the 185gr "Ashtrays"..

Using a GI type mag, a correctly designed HP should feed fine.

That doesn't necessarily mean right out of the box, as the details of the barrel, feed ramp, and etc do need to correctly conform to the specification. No need to be modified but they may require correction. The specs need to be correct to feed hard ball properly.

Sistemas aren't made the same, but are a reasonable facsimile.

Try Hornady Critical Defense.

Not all that old by some standards, but old school build.

My one and only sort of "old school" 45 ACP is this M25-2. I only shoot 250 gr Keith SWC (Lyman 429421) in 45 AR brass in it and it is wonderfully accurate.

I want a 1917 in the worse possible way.

…..new school (early Thunder Ranch Model 21) made up to look old school by adding antique Stag grips and a Tyler T. Bob Munden did a trigger job on it (a lot of people think that he only worked on Single Actions).

I have that want, but for a 1909 Colt or S&W, in .45LC.

Gotta love the 25's, and I second the Auto-Rim, 250 Keith, suggestion. Makes the Model 25 a whole 'nother animal compared to moon-clipped 45 ACP. Here's mine, a M25 no dash from 1957:

Love the old school builds. I had a Commander build similar with a hard-chromed frame. Sold it to Mickey Coleman and I hope he got some enjoyment out of it.

They are fun. I've been looking for a Colt 1917 for a long time off and on. My uncle had one that was in great shape, but by the time I realized they were more fun to shoot than a 1911, he had traded it off.

Not to be a nit picker but I believe the Lyman 429421 is a 44 caliber mold?
