Curious why you would prefer a fixed sight Freedom Arms woods carry/occasional deer killing 6 shooter?
Don't know who this was directed at, but every fixes sighted revolver I've ever had I was able to zero and after that, it didn't matter. Same load...same point of impact.
One less thing. I don't need to shoot 47 different bullets and varying velocities in handguns.

So long as the windage is on (not needing to have the barrel turned), then elevation is no big deal to work out. Small windage adjustments ain't either.

The majority of my revolvers are fixed sight, I don't see that changing.
I generally find with SA revolvers the sights are easier to see with adjustable sight guns...

That said I don't think I have even held a fixed sight FA revolver. They do have the optional replaceable dovetailed front sight however so both windage and elevation can be adjusted via the front blade.

I just get a clearer sight picture with the adjustables...

Bob
I can love either, and both have their places. But if I'm dropping $1,500 to $3,000 on a revolver....it's damned sure gonna have adjustable sights.

I just sold 2 FA's and I'm in the process of ordering one now.

475L Premier
4-3/4" Octagon Barrel
Fluted Cylinder
Trigger Job 3.5 lbs
Overtravel screw
Ivory Micarta grips
And........Express sights

Delivery expected late next year.

Very cool! Who are you ordering through? I've been slowly circling to the conclusion that I ought to just order an FA and settle in for a long wait rather than try to hunt down the right gun on the used market.

I can't think of a circumstance where I would prefer fixed sights on a Freedom Arms; or any revolver used for hunting, for that matter. Of course, were there a revolver using a fixed sight of the same visibility and robustness of a good Novak 1911 rear sight, then I might change my mind.
I use both fixed and adjustable sighted handguns as I see fit and have never had an issue with hitting what I was aiming at.

I like Express Sights for woods carry. Good choice.
...I have the brass or FO bead front sight on my 97s but replaced the V with a standard notch rear. It was too hard to consistently hold vertical allignment especially at long range. And I didn't notice any major difference in speed of acquisition.

That is going to be a nice .475...I had a 6" and was tempted to send it back and have the barrel shortened to 4 3/4" and have the grip round butted. I handled one just like that at the SHOT Show and it balanced nice... But I found .475/.480 just wasn't for me...

Bob
I can't decide between a 4 3/4" or 5 1/2". Want a 97 in 45 Colt.
The first rule of handguns is they should be handy.

I've got a couple fixed-sight handguns and, with these elderly eyes, it's dang hard to get a sight picture on 'em.. Which is why they mostly reside in the safe..

YMMV..

Agreed. Anything over 5 1/2" is out of the running for me for that reason.
The 97 is a small gun, just a bit bigger than a Ruger Single Six. You might try to get your hands on a few 97's in different barrel lengths before you make your choice. A 5 1/2" 97 won't feel, or carry, as large as a 5 1/2" FA 83 or Ruger Blackhawk.

Bigbore45colt aka Matt on rugerforums. He wants 30% down to order. Gunsbam was a liitle better on the price, but wants 100% up front.

So for about $150/month for 14 months after the deposit, I got a loaded FA.

I am getting to the point that any iron sights are hard to see. That said I have three FA-83's and all of them came with adjustable sights. The two that I actively shoot now wear 2X LER Leupold scopes. They may not be quite as handy as an iron sighted revolver, but iI can now hit what I aim at.

Awesome. Thanks for that info, it'll likely be the way I go as well.

Standard length on an 83 is 6" not 5-1/2" unless you pay extra.

Yep, what this guy said!

Bob needs adjustable sights so he can whack targets on a hill 780 yards (give or take) away. Dang stunt shooter!
I think fixed sights have their place with some guns and adjustable sights have their place on others. Obviously the fixed sight guns are for shorter distance shooting. If you are going much over 100 yards better go with the Adjustables. That being said even for relatively close <40yards I prefer the Express sights on the Freedom Arms. They are king for close up saving your bacon. Course above is for us older guys, I understand Dusty Shot a big brownie at 100 yards with a Vaquero.

..and you didn't keep it either...!
I hate fixed sight on a hunting revolver.
don't think I would ever buy a fixed sight FA revolver. In fact my only fixed sight handguns are
Walther PPK-S 380
Beretta Tomcat 32 acp
S&W airlight 38 special.
I would buy a fixed sight FA in 475 Linebaugh or 500 Wyoming Express if it were sighted for a heavy bullet at 900fps. That would be an easy shooting, but still quite powerful, load.

The problem with a fixed sight FA is that the sights generally are regulated for the heaviest loads, and I find those loads to be unpleasant to shoot on a sustained basis.

I don't own a fixed sighted FA I only purchase ones with adjustable rear square notch sights.
Same for me, the only handguns I would own with fixed sights is a CCW.

No reason to.

..beat out by the Ruger Flat Top...really a good choice...short 97s are harder to shoot than short Rugers...
