Anyone have any thoughts or opinions re: this pistol, previous owners.....

any idea on value appreciated, except for the really, really ugly grips found a very nice gun ..... considering.

The Hardgaller! I make it a point to stay far far away from any early SS 1911, having seen AMTs and Randalls that were either galled so bad the slides rattled enough you wondered if they were gonna fall off or that were galled together stuck like glue.

I'm sure they got the heat treatment right on some of them to prevent the galling issue, but I know for a fact that on some they didn't.

Even if you were to find one that's okay functionally, a newer pistol from Colt, Springfield, Ruger or others will almost surely be a better pistol in regards to fit, finish, reliability and accuracy.

Way better options for a 1911 out there.

Yes, throw it away, I had a stainless longslide back in the late 80's early 90's, it wouldn't function properly.

I sent by snail mail in those days to either Mn. or Wi. to the factory for three brand new magazines, sombitch still wouldn't run right, failure to feed, failure to extract, stovepipe, slide wouldn't lock back after I finally managed to empty a mag.

I was young then and slap full of piss and vinegar stupid, took that pos down to the shop vise, dollied over the cutting torch and with a 5 gal metal bucket underneath cut that mf pos into glowing chunks of worthless stainless.

Guess I wanted to make sure that pos didn't ever cause anyone else any trouble, been called a lot of things, but even I ain't sorry enough to lie and sell that pos to anyone, not even an enemy!

The Hardballer the only 1911 I've ever seen, so out far of spec that it would fire with a new Wilson grip safety installed- and that safety not depressed.

I had a bad one. Traded it back to the guy I bought it from for full value. It was a complete POS. Also had AMT's little .380. It was about as bad as its big brother.

Quite possibly the worst take or take-off on a 1911 in history.

Pure POS. Very few guns made that were worse.

Skeeter Skelton wrote an article on the Hardballer and it sounded like a great 1911. I bought one of the things. It would jam several times per magazine. It never fired more than two shots in a row without jamming. My gunsmith said it was galling bad and the only possible cure would be to have the frame hard chromed. I gave that a try and it seemed to work. The first time I shot a full magazine without a jam, I sold it…

AMT didn't seem too interested in the problems it was having. They told me not to be too worried until I had fired 500 rounds through it to break it in. I asked who was going to pay for all that ammo and the guy hung up the phone on me. Total piece of junk.

Guys, don't forget the Parker semi-auto. Also a complete POS.

Yep. Cool looking pistol, but an utter POS.
