I read online somewhere that you can put a peep sight on a remington pump 22 model 12 or 121. There is two screws in the back that accept a tang style sight.

Anyone see one of these before? Or try a different way to put a peep sight on one?

Lyman and Marble's made tang sights that attach to the back of the receiver, I have a Marble's on my 121. They come up for sale on Ebay every now and then, but they're never cheap. I think Redfield and Lyman made receiver sights that attach to the side of the receiver, but you'd have to drill and tap. I think they generally sell for less.

IIRC, the Lyman peep sight that mounts in the factory d&t holes on the very rear of the receiver is the R-12. Mable's also made a similar peep sight that installed in the factory d&t holes, but I don't recall what the model # is. The Lyman is a nice little unit, I had 1 on a Remington 12CS in 22 Remington Special that my Father kept around to shoot 'chucks in the garden. It is a rifle that I wish I hadn't sold, but thems the breaks!

Here are the 2 sights I know of. Top is the Lyman and the bottom is the Marbles. The Lyman uses only 2 screws and is on a much heavier base, the Marbles has a sheetmetal base and needs a third screw that goes into the stock. These sights also are for the model 121. Both companys made another models that look almost the same for the model 14, 141, 24, 241, and 25 so you should check the use code stamped on the under side of the sights.
The use codes:___________Lyman__Marbles
model 12 and 121___________R12____R7
model 14 and 141___________R14____R8
model 24 and 241___________R24____R10
model 25__________________R25____R11

thanks for the pictures Gene. That will help me identify one when I go digging around bins at
"fun shows".
I have a basic question, how do I identify what I have for a rifle? I assume it is a rem 12 because of the short fore end. The only markings are "RW" and the S/n is 308XXX.

If you have a pre-WW2 Remington pump action .22, it would be either a 12 or a 121, but both would use the same tang peep sight.

If you post a picture of it, that would help.

Also, if you go to sportsmans library at www.remington.com you can get some limited information on each model of firearm that Remington has offered.

Thanks for the link jeff. It is a 12 A basic rifle from what I can tell.

I am going to search for the LYMAN tang sight, but I am thinking of getting creative and making a sight to replace the rear sight. It would be a combination of a "one ragged hole" sight and like the flip up rear sight on a ruger ranch rifle. It should be fairly easy to fabricate.
But then again I might not. Cabin fever in MN on a -10 below weekend gets strange ideas going in a persons mind....

I'd recommend the Marbles over the Lyman. I've had both and like the Marbles better because it has a lock rig for the elevation adjustment while the Lyman doesn't.
