James, watched one of the guys at the lease headshoot a smallish (about 80 lb) hog with a 22 LR. Used regular Remington whatevers. you know the Walmart "brick" 500 rd boxes? Penetrated from between the eyes to halfway down the neck. Dropped like the ole proverbial sack of bricks. 30 yd shot. badger.
The main reason I wanted a 22 WMR was to use on hogs. Here in Louisiana, we can hunt hogs on the WMA's with whatever is the method for the game in season (22LR & 22WMR during small game season). I have not taken a hog yet, but my hunting buddy did using his 22LR (40 lb.). Shot him between the eyes and he when down, quick... A lot of people use the 22WMR on the WMA's for this reason. Head shots only is the way to go. Right in front of the ear is a good spot. Solids, and limit your shots to close as you can get em (for me 50 yds. is max.)
Good Shooting...
Den-Den
den-den,
Don't tell anybody but that is the main reason I just bought my 22mag [Linked Image]
Same regulations here in Alabama.
I may give it a go,in the next few weeks.
Good luck...Littlebit
I have killed three hogs with a magnum. All three were shot behind the shoulder. I would recommend CCI maxi mags because they will hold up better, but you still need to keep your shots under 50-60 yds.
Same regulations here in South Carolina, many are killed every year with rimfires.
