I scored a great deal on a 5 mm rem a while back (thanks Gary). It was in really good shape, minus some dings and such in the stock. So I set to refinish it.

I removed the old finish, mostly with "Easy-off" oven cleaner.
(thanks OT for the refinishing tips!)

Finish consist of 2 coats of Golden Pecan by MinWax.

Then 6 coats of Tung Oil (gloss) I buffed between coats with 0000 steel wool.

After all of that, I decided to give it the "BDL treatment." I made white spacers from .040" kydex. It was a painstaking process, but well worth it IMHO.

Then, I needed period correct glass and rings. I found a made in USA Weaver V-7 (2.5-7x32) and some steel, gloss Tasco WC rings. It's just the way I visioned it. I am quite happy.

Cool!
i had always wanted a 5mm but never could find one. grabbed up a 17hmr as a replacement when they came out.

very cool rifle and nice group!
Nice job, looks great. I had that itch a couple years ago. I bought a 591 and a 592.
The 592 likes the new ammo, the 591, not so much. Funny how each rifle is different.
I love how they smack gophers.
Good shooting.
Nice group and rifle. Is that a 50 or 100 yard group?
That's at 50. It's less than 1.5 @ 100.
New ammo finally brings the old 5mm back to life.

I have a Mod. 591, that I bought around 1970. IIRC, there was a recall around 1972 or so, for a bolt mod.

I still have around 300 rounds of original 5mm ammo- Have been hoarding it for years, afraid that when it ran out, that was the end. Now, it gets taken to the range when the grandkids show up. Don't know if the rifle will ever have collector value, but its value may have gone up with the reintroduction of ammo.

That little bullet is a real gopher buster!
BTW- there were only 27,015 of them made.
I need one of those.
I've decided I need to sell mine- check it out in the Classifieds.
check out eagle view arms in shelton wa. he owns the 5mm craig(c fire convertion)
Hey no prob Shane. Looks good. Better than when I found it
If anyone has a 5mm Craig centerfire conversion they want to sell, I am looking for one.
That looks great! I think I need to do that with mine!
Very nice. Never could get 5mm ammo up here. It was about dead before I was in high school.
Beautiful job spiffing her back up !!!

You're gonna love that rifle !! It'll do things at distances you generally.......er........NEVER.......thought a rimfire would do 'em.
