Wolf Match Target
SK Standard Plus

(Champion Shooter Supply states the two above are the same stuff)

My CZ 452 will do amazing things with just plain jane Federal 510's and not much worse with Blazers

Lots of fans of Wolf Target at rimfirecentral

Forgot CCI Mini Mags

I can't even get 5 shots to touch at 50 yards with most cheap ammo out of my Annie 1416.It really likes the expensive Eley and the Wolf MT.

Here is a 5 shot group at 50 yards with Wolf MT.

Good ammo really makes a difference.

Another vote for the wolf match. Shot great in everything I've tried.

Beautiful group, Mr. R.H. Clark... remind me NOT to challenge you to a "match" !~!~! grin

Yep... Wolf Match Target shoots really well in my pilar-bedded CZ453, too... but not quite as good as Mr. Clark's 1416 "Annie". smile

Winchester Power Points.

I like about anything CCI makes.

Black box Eley target and as stated Wolf MT are hard to beat for the money..

I favor CCI Mini-Mag HPs for one rifle, and WW PowerPoints in another. A third one insists on Wolf MT. Each rifle is a little different as to what it likes.

Ron,
They are definitely not all, that good. There is alaways a big difference between the Walmart run of the mill ammo and good target ammo though. The Wolf MT beats out everything I have tried for price and quality.

Better for what? Being primarily a hunter I use MiniMag HP's (from Walmart BTW) for smaller stuff and Velocitors for coon and the like. For the limited paper punchin I've done I've tried CCI Sub sonic, CCI standard and Wolf MT. Between those it's gonna come down to what your gun likes.

Sometimes "the average stuff" is the most accurate. As has already been said it's what the individual rifle likes. The high end expensive target ammo might shoot well in your rifle but it might not. Try the "average" stuff first it could save you some money and be the best for your rifle.

If you're shooting a semiauto there's no guarantee it'll be the most accurate but IMO CCI "copper plated" high velocity ammo seems to foul less and feed better.

If one has deep pockets and does not shoot a lot, the high end target ammo is typically the most accurate. Your rifle might not be up these standards, but here's a link to an evaluation of about 50 varieties. One of the best assays I've seen with many more details if one follows a few more links.

Better than Walmart ammo?
Some Walmart ammo is ok. Everything CCI makes is at least "ok" ammo, though their top end stuff is IMHO inferior to European .22s that sells at a similar price. I'd rather have $6 per 50 Eley Target yellow box or $5 per 50 SK Standard Plus than $14-16 per 100 CCI Green Tag or Select.

Beyond that, anything made by Eley, RWS,SK, Lapua or Wolf, with the exception of the Mexican (probably Aguila) made Eley Sport in the purple boxes, is pretty good stuff.

Aguila and Fiocchi have been hit or miss for me, though I haven't tried the highest end Fiocchi. Both are certainly worth a try in your rifles. PMC is ok if you can find it, though they don't make the excellent "Moderator" ammo anymore.

Sandpit: I have many 22 Rifles and pistols that I use mainly for small game and Varmint shooting/Hunting.
I have about 11 22's that I use frequently though and I have narrowed my "needs" down to two brands/types of munitions that provide me very good lethality and very good accuracy.
I shoot about 4,000 rounds of the Federal 525 pack hollow-point ammo every year (and sometimes I do get it at Wally World!).
And for the really BEST of accuracy in 4 of my Rifles I use the Winchester Power Point hollow-points (40 grainers).
I shoot about 1,500 to 2,000 of these a year recently.
I have never seen those at the Wally Worlds I frequent.
Shot some of each today in fact - the grass/crops are starting to get "shoulder high" on a standing Gopher so head shots were the order of the day.

Good here. Broke out this afternoon after our Belding ground squirrels. A local rancher has a newly planted field and herbage is still short enough for good shooting. The first spring pups are up to adult size now and much easier to hit. Established alfalfa fields have been too tall to shoot for over 3 weeks now.

Back on the ammo: I rattle through 8 to 12,000 rds each spring after our squirrels. With good shooting one does about a brick to a brick and half a day, and that is loading single shot. That being, I can not afford the high end stuff. For off the mom and pop shelf ammo, a Ruger 77/22 likes American Eagle hollow points, and an Anschutz is fond of Winchester Power Points.
