Curious as to what you guys are seeing for prices of "run of the mill" .22 bricks where you live? Or can you find any ammo at all? Did see a completed auction on Gunbrokers were someone bought 4, 100 packs of CCI for about $85 but that really seems excessive.
In the stores I shop you can find the occassional box of Remingtons but that is about it.
Snowwolfe: There is NO 22 L.R. ammunition available in SW Montana - dittoes for the many shops and stores I have checked in the last month in Idaho and Washington states.
My friend needed some money last week and he took 12 bulk packs (525 rounds each) of Remington hollow-point ammo into our local pawn/sport shop put a price of $40.00 on each pack and it sold out in less than 8 hours of shop time (last 4 hours of one day and the first four hours of the next day!).
My friend admits to $24.00 profit on each pack and wishes he had asked for more money on each pack.
I have no trust in the Remington 525 bulk pack ammo anymore or I would have bought a carton or two from him for myself!
Other than that "short" appearance of the 22 Remington bulk packs I have seen NO 22 ammo in at least 20 stores I have been to, in three states, recently.
I think it is going to get a bit worse before it gets better!
And that is a shame.
Hold into the wind

There is none to be had around here either. Only had 22 shotshells was it. Too much hoarding going on. And GOUGING is running rampid. Good shooting
No .22 LR ammo in my area. What little I saw at a gun show was way over priced.

maddog
One store has Eley ... not much else. But in all fairness, I'm not looking. Except for serious target ammo, my plinking needs are covered this year and most of next smile I'm hoping normalcy returns by then. As the Blazers start rolling in at less than $20, I'll buy a couple bricks a week until my stock is upto 2 years worth again. I have some fed bulk that is alright. But have like 3k of Win Xpert that doesn't shoot well in anything ... I'm going to start pistol shooting with it ...
No 22LR in my area. Last time I was in Basspro, asked the sales guy when they would get more.
He said the ammo is still coming in but as soon as they put it out, 2 or 3 hours later it is gone.
If price is of no matter to you, gun shows have 22LR but the cost is too high for me.
I've seen some Remington Golden Crap bulk for $23 just once in the past 4 months in any stores around here. I passed on them.

I love shooting .22lr and had been buying a bulk box at just about every trip to the stores and it builds up to a nice cushion.

At a gun show this weekend one guy was selling 500 rounds bulk Dynapoints for $30.00. Another dealer bought everything he had and then priced them for $50 at the same show!
At the gunshow Saturday, one vendor had 8 bricks of Remington Thunderbolt for $80 per brick. Another had the CCI Mini Mag 375 ct bulk paks for $40. CCI 100 ct was $12. I didn't see anybody buying any 22rf stuff or the overpriced 223 stuff. And there were alot of people there.
Snagged 10 cartons of Federal 325 count 36gr .22lr HP's last week from Cabela's for $14.99 per carton + $5.00 shipping.
Local hardware store has a pretty fair supply. Of course all they carry is Remington 36gr, I think they are getting $6ish for 100 packs...haven't needed any .22 ammo for a while so I'm not sure on the price.
I lucked into 3-375 boxes of CCI mini mags at my local Dick's for 26$ per. Limit was 3 but they only had 3 left.

The real reason why we are having this shortage...greed ! mad
From my other post here under it's own "Affordable ammo" heading:

It's nice living in the country, and dealing with local independent gunshops that the Walmart crowd ignores.

Stopped by one of my favorites last night, and found 500 round bulk packs sitting there for $21.99.

I picked up one, and left the rest for others.

I'm half tempted to go show it to the guys standing at the big-box counter and crying that they can't score any of the same stuff at $50 cause all their buddies snagged it up and stashed it in the corner of their garage, with thoughts of it being their retirement fund some day!
I live in NW IA.
Sioux City Scheel's, Dunham's, nothing but birdshot and shrts.
Walmart (2 of them) get some .22LR about once a week. Mainly CCI 100 packs.

I travel to Chicago frequently.
Stopped at 5 Walmarts from Arlington Heights, Rockford, Delavan WI, Dubuque, IA.- No .22 LR except birdshot and .22 Shorts.

Was in Omaha NE yesterday, stopped in the 2nd or 3rd largest Scheel's in the country suposedly, no .22 LR.

The most disturbing thing also, I would say that all three Scheel's I have been in in the last 2 weeks had about 10% of the handguns they would normally have. No Glocks, no SIG's, a few Kimber's, a few .22LR pistols. Wiped out.
Small gunshow in Sioux City last weekend.

One vendor had Federal cheapy 550 packs @ $50 each.

I did not see any takers while I was there.
Local gunshop about 20 miles down the road from me has CCI 50rd boxes for $4.95 , 100rds for $9.95.

Local hardware here in town had six or seven boxes left for $7.95 per 50rds.

I know another source that has plenty of german manufactured target ammo but it's $15.00 per 50rds. I just refuse to pay that price for .22lr ammo.

Other than those three places everywhere else is dried up for rimfire ammo. No magnum or shorts to be had either. I'm sitting on a decent supply but I hate to shoot it not knowing when I might be able to restock.

WHAT 22 caliber bullets or ammo?
I just picked up a brick (525rd) of Remington for $24 at the local box store.
LGS just got in a 6 month old backorder yesterday. I didn't ask the price simply because I have several cases from before the panic.
Last week, North of Minneapolis & St Paul, MN.

Gander Mountain - zero .22 Long Rifle

Mills Fleet Farm - Some plastic box 100 packs for around $6 and about 40 boxes (50 rnds ea) of WW Wildcat for $2.10 per box.
Sorry I don't remember the exact price, but I do remember thinking it was their normal, pre-hoarding price.

And Mills encourages Concealed Carry in their stores smile
CCI standard velocity $30 brick at my local gun shop here in Connecticut. He has been replenished and the last time I was in there he had about 10 bricks.
This too shall pass
No 22 rimfire around here. Even the ones loaded with shot are gone.

Ernie
Nothing much here in Louisiana. There are some high end CCI and other 22 LR loads, but no bricks.
A friend of mine is a manager at a local sporting goods store and she said she would have a pallet of bricks before the election in the back of her store. Now she does not even have one box in the store. And they will now only sell you 3 boxes per day and each box has to be a different caliber.
Our leaders at work? Hope they don't start taxing each round?
In the SW ohio area it is very hard to come by. You just have to be in the right place at the right time to find some. Bass pro shop gets it in sporadically, but it's gone in a matter of hours. Clerks claim to never know when it's coming. Had no luck at Dicks or Wal-mart either. I did luck out at small local gunshop here that had CCI mini-mags at $10/100 and picked up a brick, but they haven't had anymore in a week. Same way for 9mm ammo, and reloading supplies. Hope this is over soon.
Stopped at Bass Pro on the way back from Mardi Gras in New Orleans Tuesday. I didn't need any ammo but several people in front of me were checking out 3 bricks of .22 ammo each.
Maximum 2 bricks per cust here in Cincinnati if you could be there when they have it.
Plenty available downstairs. If you have to ask you can't afford it.
Have to catch it at the right moment and limits, four 500+ bulk packs today, just under $80 tax included.

We're good for whistle pigs this year but might as well replace now if available.

It probably ain't gonna get any cheaper
Cci standerded volictiy 60 a brick as many as you what depends on were you look and who you know
FYI

If anyone wants 22 Maxi-Mag ammo,

Cabelas has the Troy Landry edition stuff in stock as of 6:30 am ..........
Had to laugh today at a gun show. Lots of .22 RF ammo available. Bricks and bricks of red & green box Remington, blue and white Peters. They will never get a better price than now, even if it is mildly collectable. 80-120 bucks per brick.

Win. WRF ammo at $25/box of 50. I took delivery less than 2 weeks ago of two bricks for less than $12.50/box. Guy didn't believe me...oh well.

Shoot small, live large.

From what I have seen online, the real expensive Eley brand target ammo is available, I like Eley ammo, and would much rather have the expensive British stuff per box over the cheap stuff that is now priced way beyond what it is worth.
The gator guy's CCI ammo was 49.99 for 250 ct. at cabelas
Picked up 5 bricks (525) of Federal the other day for $17.99+tax. I didn't really 'need' one but figured I'd snag one for myself and the other four are for nephews and my dad... the unprepared.

Wow, thats a terrific price. Good for you!

I am traveling this weekend a bit and took a detour to a LGS in central NJ.
The guys prices are never that good, but I was pleased to note that they hadnt jacked things up from his typcially "slightly high" prices.

All the cci stnd velocity .22 lr you want. A boat load of bricks, and I saw cases piled up in under the shelf. Lotta ammo.

$29.99 a brick, which is a shame but considering recent prices isnt horrible. In NNJ and NYS $35 a brick is the best price I can find for the bricks they would sell if they had them.

$9.99 a box of 100 still around, which, for those of you in rio linde, is about $50 / brick.

Anyway, Sportsmans Rendezvous in central NJ. Plenty .22 std vel CCI if you want to pay $30/brick.

Central Jersey (what exit?) must be the discount 22 capitol of the US, if you think that is high. When I was buying Std Vel CCI, that was close to normal price 2 years ago from WalMart. $6 per 100 was normal.

I just bought 3- 375 rd bricks of Federal at Walmart for $13.17 a brick I just happened to walk by as they were shelving it.

What I don't get is why the 22 rim fire is hard to come by, granted there is hoarding. The ammo that has been used in these tragic shootings have been .223 and handgun center fire stuff. That would be where a Federal ban would target first, not 22's.

It does look like there has been binge buying of other shooting stuff, but odd that you cannot buy 22's at all unless you wanted to be gouged. The black powder balls seem to be under pressure too, but I can order some if I need to.

How is the production of the foreign brands going, like Sellier and Bellot or Aguilla? Have they upped their manufacture rate?
I have three 525 round federal bulk packs.

I might be selling them as I have to buy hijgh priced ammo for a trip to thunder Ranch ($1200 per thousand).

Price is up for everyone. That same ammo was $750 last year.

Pm if interested.

No exit really, its not on the eastern corridor where all of the "parkway" exits are. SR is in Flemington NJ. Route 31. south of route 78 and north of rt 206.

I cringed paying $30/brick...

lol, I just saw you arent from NJ , so you are really not interested in where it is!

I am none too bright today.
None to be found in my area. Sucks for my 14 year old as he got a Smith and Wesson M&P for Christmas. Santa also brought a few bulk packs but they won't last much longer. Funny, I had the idea to get plenty of 25 round mags (5) but didn't get a good supply of ammo.

I think things will catch up, although it might be awhile.
Colorado stores are out of .22 LR. What comes in is quickly bought. . Surplusammo has some and selling for 3x what it should be selling for. They raised the price twice in one day. I will never buy a thing from them. I am now able to find the upper end ammo like Lapua and Eley Tenex online. And that is a good sign. Things should be back to normal in a few months. It's the lower end ammo that is hard to find.

So in you opinion, is $30 a brick something that you'd consider so high that you wouldnt go back to the store?

I would cringe if I had to pay $30 for a brick of Fed Bulk.
I would willingly buy CCI Std. Vel. for $30/brick ... it a step or two up on the quality ladder.
I would happily pay $30 for a brick of Wolf Match.
I would eagerly pay $30/brick for higher end Eley.

Seriously $30/brick for CCI Std. Vel. is a decent price, esp in this day and age!! It would be 50% high or CCI Blazer.

Good Luck!
There is still none to be had around here. I am stocked up and not really shopping, but I went in a local shop the other day just looking at guns in general and someone else at the counter was looking for .22 ammo. The guy at the store told him a couple of weeks ago they got 175,000 rounds of the CCI (mostly Blazer, I think). He said that amount usually lasts 4 to 6 months (I live in a small town). They limited purchases to one brick per customer and sold out in 3 days.

Things are still crazy around here.

Should have travelled to SE Montana, specifically Hardin, Montana!
I gave up on the city I live in and took a chance and went for a drive hunting for .22lr
That's where i picked up this haul, I was so sick of seeing nothing I bought more than usual from one store just last weekend.
The funny thing is that i didn't even come close to cleaning them out, and they were still actually discounting for bulk purchases (over 500 rounds) and encouraging large sales.
Note: None of this is for sale, I can provide a name/details of the shop to those who might want to attempt a drive to get your own.

From all my visits to the local gun/ammo retailers in Austin, I have not seen any .22 RF for sale since December. I needed reloading powder for my rifles and went to McBrides Guns in Austin, TX yesterday. I remember from 2009 that the owner jacks up the prices, and he did not deviate this year either in regards to the cost.

I have been avoiding the gun shops the last few months due to the feeding frenzy and crowds, but I am seeing this sort of thing is calming down now.

He did have 4 boxes (50 rd boxes) of some kind of premium .22 Federal brand ammo for sale. Each was priced at "$24.99". I think that is the most money ever asked for .22 RF ammo. He did have my powder at regular prices, got a can. He had no primers, or bullets in .224 either. Handgun ammo was mostly .38 specials, out of the other stuff. No one seemed interested in the $24.99 rimfire ammo, which does show that there are limits to what people will pay.
I too have basically avoided gun shops and gun shows since the incident in Dec. By coincidence I was making a regular telephone order for a few things the day of or the day after Sandy Hook, not realizing that the panic buying was kicking in. After taking my order, the nice lady said after a pause, "that's it?" Not in the normal way, but as if to say "that's ALL your getting?"
The floodgates were bursting as we spoke. I don't really NEED anything and could probably get by with what I have the rest of my shooting days. But that's not to say there aren't some different components I'd like to get.
Regular shipments are bought up as soon as they come in, and folks not finding what they want are now buying anything that's available, like shotgun shells and hunting centerfire ammo.
Whoever would have though America would run out of rimfire ammo? Most people are used to just buying what they need as they need it. As long as it's on the shelf why spend the money?
The federal bulk packs of 22 never recovered here after the panic buying of the first election, as they came in, they went out. Fortunately I didn't think like most.
How long will this last? It will all depend on how hard sub-zero decides to push his agenda. But I don't forsee things getting back to what you could call "normal" for a long time, at least until regime change in DC.
This sort of thing sort of galls my chaps and I cant help but wish bad things for the hoarders and speculators. There is no doubt that production will eventually catch up but like the last time when the price of a brick of shells went from around $12 to $18 I expect $30 will become the norm for the promo stuff and higher for the other stuff and everyone will be bit-hing about Obama when in reality we did it to ourselves
I found a fair amount this evening at a lil one man shop i visit now and then. Fed gold match, pmc match, rem gold,thunderbolt,cyclone,wildcat,win555 etc. He set a 2 box limit. I only bought 1 50rd box of pmc match. Paid 3 bucks for it, and .50 of that was a tip. I already have 5 flavors to try in my new to me 880sq. Hopefully it likes something cheap...
Supplies getting any better in the lower 48?

no, er body is still going ape schit about .22 ammo. I am finding reloading components to be somewhat easier to find, however.
Not in my area but online....I can't believe I paid $5.50 a box for target ammo last night. I bought 1000 rounds of it to shoot in my new CZ's. I have plenty of plinking ammo just wanted to try this so went for it.

If anyone is interestd here is a link.

That's actually a good price for that ammo. ... My CZ loves it.

I picked up two bricks too.I have a new 453 on lawaway.
bulkammo.com has it but you're going to pay for it and you have to keep checking the site multiple times throughout the day. Right before the panic I could walk into wally world & get a 325 round box of Federal Auto-Match for 14 bucks a box/4 cents a round. Last week I got 5K rounds of Centurion 40gr solid (Aguila) for $695/14 cents a round at bulkammo.com. This morning at about 8am the same ammo was $735. At 10am they were out of stock. At lunch they had 5 boxes & an hour later that was gone.
There is no 22LR around here. Guy at Basspro told me as soon as they put the ammo out hour later it is gone.
I think folks are still in the "let me get all of it when I do see it because I don't want to end up in this sh&thole again" mode.

They know they should've been stacking it tall and deep a little at a time but often a long time ago.

They are still in catch up mode, not just buying for "today" but also for 10 years from now so that history does not repeat itself on their own personal economies.

The manufacturers thus are trying to keep up with not just normal supply but supply for the next 10 years - right now. I am conservatively guessing that they have to up production by a factor 10 because EVERYBODY will still be in catch-up-hoarding mode for at least the next year or so.

I have tens of thousands upon thousands stacked deep... smile

What about airgun pellets and primers? You stacked those too, right?

I CAN NOT have afforded my current stash at today's prices. The thing is that the price will always increase. THE PRICE NEVER DECREASES. Find the best deal you can find now, strap you cup on and hit danged BUY NOW button because you will definitely pay more tomorrow. It's gonna hurt. It will hurt more tomorrow.
Dong's a local shop in Tulsa, OK I have shopped for years had .22 ammo today. Blazer 50 count boxes for...$9.99 a box. I thought it was a misprint. I don't need $10.00 a box bulk .22 ammo. They were selling it fast. I suppose in 10 years when I have shot up all my ammo and I can't find .22 I will wish I had paid that price. They are the only place I have seen .22 ammo in 2 months.

Perry
alukban - Amen brother. I got caught with my pants down on 22, but I'm in fat city with everything else.
Local cabelas has or had 100 rnd. CCI for $10
Just picked up a brick of Blaser 22 for $20 at Fleet Farm also picked up Federal 22 mag 50 for $12 along with Federal 223 for $10 per 20
