Good bad and ugly. My neighbor (sameone with the KKM) also has access to a Win 250 lever action 22. How do folks like'em ... never hear anything about them so I don't know what to assume.

Thanks

Good thing - we all know what "assume" does........... laugh

The Model 250 Lever-action was a typical Post-64 design Winchester .22, made from 1963-73 - that wasn't very popular in the day, due to the change in receiver material from steel to aluminum (something taken for granted today)and the plain stocks.

They were the levergun (M150/250/255/255D) part of an entire family consisting also of autoloading (M190/290) & pump (M270/275) rifles that used the same basic receivers, stocks & tube magazines that were all pretty much discontinued by around 1980.

They were ok utility rifles that worked well until they didn't - and then they became a PITA to repair.

It seems that more folks seem to "like" them today, then when they were in production - most likely (IMO) due to the effect of internet exposure that wasn't even a wet dream back then.

My dad has a 22 magnum model with Sears name on it. It's not the prettiest thing out there, but it has worked for a LONG time and shoots little groups with Maxi-Mags.

I had one for years and it shot 22 Longs very well. It was pretty erratic with most of the Long rifle ammo that I fed it. I bought it pretty cheap and ended up trading it for some work that I had done on my swimming pool when I moved to Arizona, I figured about $250 to $300 worth of work.

Thanks for the information.

I like the Winchester 150/250/255 series except for the very shallow pistol grip geometry. For whatever reason, the same geometry on the pump action 270/275 or semi-auto 190/290 series rifles doesn't bother me.

If you buy either a lever action 250/255 or semi-auto 190/290, GPC has nicely figured deluxe grade wood for sale for around $100 per set. I've posted the GPC stock numbers previously if you're interested. I've bought three or four sets of this new, old stock, wood for 190s and 290s that were nice enough to warrant an upgrade in their wood.
