I know this sounds crazy, but these are crazy times. My supply of Speer .22 Mag Short Barrel is better than my supply of other .22 Magnum ammo. Has anyone tried it in a rifle? I did find one report on another forum where someone chronographed it out of a handgun and a rifle, and said the rifle velocity was approximately 1950 fps mv with a "deviation" of 43 out of an 18.5" rifle barrel (compared to 1387/22 in a 4" revolver). The report did not say anything about accuracy. The velocity sounded ok to me.

I was hoping that someone at the Campfire had run a similar test. I am more interested in accuracy than anything else. I am past my seasonal chronographing "window", so that testing can't happen for about 6 more months.

Thanks!
I haven't but I have shot the hornady critical defense FTX from my rifles with excellent results. I too would be interested in these results.
I'm interested in teh results too. My local dealer hasn't got any .22 Mag ammo other than the Speer .22 Mag Short Barrel. I figure it would work well enough but they want darn near $20 a box for it.
I've tried them out of a Ruger 77/22 Mag...and a Marlin 25MN...

accuracy wasn't even close to being crappy... it was much worse...

a blind kid with a sling shot could do as well at 50 yds...

those Hornady 22 FTX rounds with the 45 grain Flex tip bullets are pretty darn accurate out of both the above 22 Mags...

one stat I saw that I thought was interesting ( and sadly don't remember the source) but it stated that the energy of the Hornady shot out of a rifle, had the same energy at 300 yds, as the same round shot out of a 2 inch pistol barrel had at 25 yds...

that would be interesting to be able to verify...

but I have the Ruger at home for home defense, with a 1.5 x 4 power shotgun scope on top....
