Any lovers yet....starting to see rifles and ammo popping up. Anyone one taking the plunge?

No rifles or ammo around here - would like to see something nicer than a Savage chambered in it eventually.

I haven't compared case dimensions but I'd be curious if a single shot barrel, such as a Contender, NEF or KP1, in 17 HMR could be rechambered for it.

I'd own one if they ever start building something nice to put it in.

+1 on this and on bea175's LH comment. I'd love to have one-in a LH model. I have ammo sitting on my shelf waiting.

I took the plunge when a Canadian dealer got some Bmags in stock as I wanted to give the fastest rimfire a try. It seems to shoot well enough with no failures. When Boyds came out with a replacement stock I ordered the Rimfire Hunter model and topped the little Savage with a new Redfield 4-12x40. Feels a lot better now without that flimsy plastic handle. Heres a cell phone pic...

Looking forward to a report on everything. Trigger, accuracy, funtion, weight, feel, whatever! Nice job, way to take the plunge for all of us. grin

A friend of my son bought a savage version didn't shoot it or see it shot on paper but at 100 M on steel it seemed plenty accurate, didn't chrono it either , maybe later this month. The cases are noticeably bigger than a HMR . The trigger on the little savage is defeintly among the lightest factory trigger I have shot.

MGM is making Contender and Encore carbine barrels for the WSM. I may have to acquire one while waiting for a LH bolt gun...

Patience is not one of my strong suits.

I have a Bmag and have had it for a couple of months.
Accuracy is good, not great.
The 25 gr is more accurate in my rifle than the faster 20gr.
The rotary magazine is junky and doesn't feed reliably.
The rifle is pretty rough around the edges.
The accutrigger takes a little getting used to but it is at least adjustable. I have it on the lightest setting.
I have shot a few armadillos with it. It makes them pop.
It shoots pretty flat for a rimfire. No hold over at 100yds.

I wish someone would come out with a better looking and functioning rifle. Maybe like Ruger's .17 that looks like a Model 77. Also, would someone please make an aftermarket magazine that works??

Pretty sure that the 17WSM is still-born, unfortunately. Not enough good rifles or ammo for it, and interest has already peaked and waned.

What if this was offered in 17WSM ... is it prettier?
