Has anyone used any of this brand? What is your experience, good or bad?

I know a guy that uses it and loves it. Blows up gophers on impact.
If I could find some I'd buy it.
While at his house one day he showed me the difference between CCI and aguila, while the CCI put a hole in the coke can, the aguila tore that can in half.
It was impressive.
I've never had a problem with it.

I shoot the Aguila standard velocity target loads in my old 22's without issue. I heard it's made on Remington equipment but don't know that for fact.
Posted By: Snowwolfe Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/18/14
Eley primed, good stuff. All standard velocity. Works fine in a Ruger 10/22 and pretty much every thing else I tried it in. Seems a little dirty but goes bang and is ok in the accuracy department, much better than bulk ammo.

I buy mine from CMP. Price is either $260 or $280 per case of 5,000. Always have a case or two on back order and just got an email from CMP saying they should start shipping again soon.

Not sure which ones you're looking at but I've used them all and I love them all.

Sons' smallbore rifle club shoots it as well. Good schit. Buy all you can.

Are you talking about the Super Maximum Hypervelocity?

Travis
Type unknown. May be able to get hold of some but as yet haven't learned the details. Wasn't sure if it was something I should exercise caution about.

Thanks for all the comments, so far they seem favorable.

Jim
Been shooting the hyper velocity stuff for a while.

It's rated at over 1700 FPS, and is hotter than CCI stingers.

Like Stingers, you have to find a gun the "likes" it.

It dose "fling goo" almost as well as a 22mag.

I bought three bricks before the "crunch", and am shooting it sparingly.

I've shot different types of it with decent results
Posted By: huffmanite Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/19/14
have used the Aguila Super Extra with good accuracy in my very accurate BSA Martini model 12. However, it will hit about 3/4" lower on my 50 yd target than the other brands of 22 ammo that shoots well in the same rifle. This other ammo has velocity around 1100 fps.

I've shot the hypervelocity Aguila ammo and its accuracy was poor for me.
Thanks for the comments, they help.

I've only used the Colibri's...but I've used em' a bunch. No louder than a pellet rifle. Shoot em' in the backyard. I let my kids shoot em' in .22 revolvers and a .22 Chipmunk. They like em' too.

It may have been the hypervelocity Travis, it's been a while...
Posted By: cisco1 Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/19/14
You wouldn't think ammo of this quality comes from Mexico.
I have been using it for years, with good results.
Aquilla is the only current source for the Winchester 1903 Automatic, and 5MM Rem. under the Centurion Label. Many years ago Old Western Scrounger had a run of Winchester 1903 Automatic made for them by Aquilla.
$ 19.00 a box for 5MM in quantities of 20 boxes.
I buy it from J&G Sales in Prescott.

That's good stuff.

If I could be selective I would buy nothing buy Aguila and CCI, in all varieties.

Ditto... except add Winchester Subsonics and Wolf Match Target. Actually other than trying some other stuff, that is what I did and none of the three have ever let me down (excepting the hyper velocity stuff), These days though I buy whatever I can find.

So will the super colibri be perfect for shooting in my neighborhood? Want something very quiet. Don't worry have a great backstop just don't like the noise. Would love to be able to shoot without too much more than pellet rifle noise. I have eley subsonic and Norma but they are still pretty loud
Posted By: Pappy348 Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/21/14
The Colibri rounds are for pistols only, but obviously some are shooting them in rifles. Just be aware that you may stick one in the barrel. I've tried them in a Single Six, a Bearcat, and a 22/45. The revolvers didn't shoot for spit, but the auto groups well enough to be useful, at least up to 10 yards or so. They do group about an inch low compared to HS stuff, but just use a seperate aiming point. Of course, they don't cycle the auto; you have to single load.
The Rifle Match loads are extremely accurate in my CZ 453. During my tests to find the best ammo for my rifle, they tied with RWS SS HPs, and have the same POI. The last brick I bought ran me about $45. They do stink a bit, like Eleys.

I like the Aguila sub-sonics more better than the Winchesters, haven't used the Wolf stuff but would love to find a case of it.

They're very bad ass and quiet. I've shot bunches of the standard Colibri out of 16" carbines and they are ridiculously quiet and accurate.

Matter of fact, I skipped BB/pellet guns altogether with my son because the Colibris were just that awesome.

Can't help you there... grin

But if I see any at the gun show this weekend I'll probably grab some.

I buy their 5mm Rem Mag ammo. No problems at all with it.
Posted By: kevinJ Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/24/14
I'm not having any luck finding super colibri at all to try.

Kevin... Gunbroker smile
Posted By: kevinJ Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/25/14
Thanks ackley. Give it a look today. Maybe I find it decently priced. Are the cci cb about the same as the super colibri? Is there anything else on the market that is similar?
I've been shooting CCI Quiet 22.

Also have used the CCI CB's.

The Quiet shoots a 40 grain bullet and the CB shoots a 29 grainer.

The Quiet shoots more accurate for me, and just makes a "pop" about like a pellet gun.

Hard to find either right now.
I bought a brick of the Quiet before the crunch.

Another that I like is the CCI sub-sonic HP. It is a little louder, but still WAY quieter than a high speed 22LR.

My MK XX11 likes these.

Midway is showing a couple of flavors of Aguila available right now in 500 round quantities. Just check the shipping charges before you submit your order.

I did, and decided to wait. Worked out to about $7.50 a box for Match Rifle.

Your post is a sign that the market is stabilizing.

I don't know about that, I have been "deciding to wait" for about 18 months now, with the exception of 3 cases of SK Standard+. Not holding my breath here. frown
I like and shoot Aguila SE. It is Eley primed and shoots very well for me. It is subsonic. I looked at one brick that I have and it has a $14 price sticker on it.

Aguila Super Colibri's stick about a foot into my CZ 452's barrel. They will exit a Remington or Marlin, and apparently a 10/22, but not my CZ.

Just so ya know before you fire the second one.
Posted By: PennDog Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/28/14
I shoot a bunch of Aguilla Target and it is fairly accurate in many of my rifles (great for informal shooting matches and target practice) and extremely accurate in a couple of rifles (use it in NRA sanctioned silhouette events). Is a little "dirty" but does not seem to affect accuracy?

Just my 2 cents,
PennDog

Thanks for the heads up. Guess I will have to be very cautious. Anyone else use them in a cz 452/455 before? What's was your results
Posted By: rost495 Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/30/14
super colibri was on gunbroker and just searching the net here and there at 60 a brick a while back. So we bought a 22 pellet rifle instead. Its almost as quiet and I"ll buy a case of super colibri in a few years again when things settle back in.
Posted By: Ackleyfan Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 04/30/14
$60 is cheap.... laugh it's going for $121 shipped per 500 these days
Posted By: Mule Deer Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 05/01/14
I bought 2 bricks of Aguila .22 LR ammo the other day for $100 total, one of the subsonic 40-grain load and one of the 40-grain match ammo, both Eley primed. Will see how they shoot, but am figuring that 2/3 of the price was for the match ammo, not a bad deal at all, and the other third for the subsonic.
Posted By: jimmyp Re: Aguila .22 rimfire ammo - 05/01/14
Yesterday at 7:45AM the scalpers and I were standing outside of Academy sports they had loose 50 round boxes of the Aguila standard 40 grain load. One of them told me he was pretty sure they would not have anything today and that he thought Walmart had some 22 bullets. I could see it on the first counter through the window and didn't even speak to him. Scum.
