uh, ya, we'll get right on that.

just watch the store flyers and go to walmart once in a while. i've bought 4700 rounds of bulk ammo recently and haven't paid more than .05 round.

and no, its not for sale.
Hoarder
A local problem as told to me by Walmart clerks and one gun store owner is that a group of old retired guys are aware of when shipments arrive. They are waiting for the doors to open in the morning, buy all they can to go with their stockpile at home, and then go to McDonald's for the usual breakfast sandwich and coffee. Those of us who are at work are out of luck. Walmart limits sales to 1-2 boxes (not bricks) per person. Of course when school is not in session the retirees bring all of their grandkids and their friends to buy .22 LRs. I plan on retiring next year so will report back on how this actually works out. BTW I overheard one elderly buyer tell another, at McDonald's, that he had over 17,500 rounds in his gun safe. I asked if I could buy a brick from him for my granddaughter. He would not even place a price on it. Go Figure.
When my son was 12 or so we would spend $20 on 2 bricks of Wildcats or Thunderbolts so we could enjoy and afternoon of shooting. Now my 12 year old granddaughter has to be content with 1, maybe 2 boxes, and never has known the joy of shooting 500 rounds at one sitting. I don't even shoot of the .22 LRs myself so she can have the limited opportunity. My son evolved into a great long rifle shooter by the time he was twenty as a result of years behind the scope of a .22 bolt rifle.
A friend in Oxford, MS has friends who work at the Winchester Ammo factory located there. They tell him that the .22 LR line runs 24/7. The only line in the plant that does so. They manufacture enough to fill a 40 foot trailer each day/night. The semi pulls out onto the Oxford bypass and apparently drives off into the Twilight Zone. Another friend there told me that the employees can buy any Winchester product at the factory except...you guessed it.
I'll let others answer the rest of your rant, but i'd like to know what you think "the best of the best" match ammo is.

Eley Tenex is pretty much regarded as the best and you ain't gonna get it for 12 cents a shot; closer to $.50. If I'm lucky, I get my RWS SS HPs for about 16 cents, before shipping. The last time I saw them for sale locally, about 2 years ago, they were $.20 each.

Patience and a little cruising on the www keep me supplied.
I will come back around on them. At the gun show this weekend the gouges were there with their 75 dollar bricks and the ammo is showing up in the stores. They will more than likly be stuck with it.
As long as there are folks willing to pay 3x's the price there isn't much you can do. It is just like the telemarketers, as long as some stupid people buy from them they will still call you at dinner.

They aren't stuck with it if they paid normal retail because they can always shoot it. They're only stuck with it if they bought it for $50/brick speculating that they can sell it for $75.
or hold on to it until the next debacle .... and there will be one.
