I have a Winchester 52 22 LR and I don't know anything about these rifles. I'll post up some pics. It has Lyman peep sight with all kinds of inserts and 3 mags (looks like 2- 5 rds mags and a 10 rd). Hooded front sight as well. Thank you all in advance.

I don't think that is a 52C, in fact I think it is a 52 or 52A standard weight with the very desirable Lyman rear target sight. Great rifle! I have one of similar vintage with the Winchester 82A rear ladder sight and it is a great offhand gun. Does the serial number contain a letter?

No it does not. It's 196XX. Has a heavy target weight type barrel also. Action is smooth as silk and the trigger breaks like frickin glass.

That's a "pre-A" Model 52 made prior to 1932 with the standard target barrel of medium heavy profile. Great gun, mine is a blast to shoot.

They accurate compared to say the Cooper 57 Custom Classic I got ?
Posted By: Oregon45 Re: Winchester 52 C ?????? - 08/31/14
I think the limiting factor would be sights and trigger compared to the Cooper. The 52 was Winchester's top target rifle between the wars; they're built right.

Nice rifle. Wish I could find one like that in my parts. I am in awe. Beautiful
Let us know how it shoots

Thank you. There is a little history behind the rifle as well. My grandfather got this rifle from a guy who shot in the 1932 Olympics on the USA Shooting Team. My grandfather bought the rifle for $14.

That gun looks like it belongs in a Winchester museum . Beautiful rifle.

I plan on doing some prone with it and it will most likely stay in my family.

I have two 52's also, one is a 52B Sporter and the other is a pre A that has been made into a "Sporter" by checkering the stock, shortening the barrel to 22" and adding an ebony forend tip. The pre A is my favorite 52, I will be adding a Lyman Alaskan scope using the scope block holes in the barrel and tapping the dovetailed part of the 48J receiver sight.

All of the above posts are wrong.

These are crappy rifles, and dangerous to use.

Please contact me for my shipping address so that I can dispose of this properly for you... wink

Seriously though -- sweet!

Most of these have very nice triggers, but if your example does not, take the action out of the stock and flush the trigger with lighter fluid. I've fixed several that had less-than-perfect trigger pulls with this simple procedure (taking them apart may not be needed at all).

I appreciate your concern for my safety...... grin No need to monkey or adjust the trigger on this as it breaks like the proverbial glass.

Was at my local range yesterday and I got to talking with a guy who had that starry eyed look in his eye and we chatted for a piece. He wanted to know if I was interested in selling the rifle and that he would be willing to give me $750 for the rifle.
Fantastic gun with a great history, 750 is a start but I think the gun would bring more! Keep it if you can, Check out the mod 52 Winchester forum over at rimfire cent. A lot of knowledge there and a couple very advanced collector, good guys , if fact a lot of good guys that do not mind helping a new to the 52 world.I picked up a E model today that I cannot wait to shoot! very best WinPoor

Beautiful rifle. Can't go wrong with those W52s..

Great old rifle, go shoot it!!

The guy offering $750.00 is not your friend. whistle
That's a "real" 22. Keep it, keep it busy. Pass it on to a worthy heir. Or heiress.

If you ever decide to sell that thing please, please give me a heads up. That is as good as it gets in my book. What a classic!

One of these target guns is on my bucket list.
Classic, it does not get any better than a Winchester 52 IMO !!

Really.? If I had a cooper I would trade you in a second..
Best 100 yard rifle group I ever saw was a friends 52...

I have a 57M Custom Classic and it is REALLY accurate not to mention a beautiful rifle. I understand your feelings about the 52 I have because this a bit of Winchester history and you really can't compare the 52 to a Cooper as they are both beautiful in their own way. I inherited this from my grandfather so that in and of itself makes it special to me.
