Fun rifle, fairly accurate with iron sights, if you want to use a scope, find something with a real receiver. I bought one new about 1972, eventually traded it to a friend who still has it (I think).

At the time Remington was running ads about how dependable the 66 was, some one used one to shoot thousands of wood blocks without a jam, but I wanted detachable magazines so I bought a 77. Mine was a bit finicky about ammunition, I think it liked CCI but not Federal, but that was long, long ago and that was a sample of one.

Really pretty much the same as a 66 except the magazines.

Yep, I was wrong the lever gun was the model 76.

The Nylon 77 is the detachable magazine version of the Nylon 66. Other than cosmetically, they are the same as the Mohawk Nylon 10-C.

My experience with the Nylon 66 is that the tubular magazine will reliably feed just about any brand/style of .22 LR ammo, while the detachable magazines of the Nylon 77 and Mohawk Nylon 10-C can be picky, in a random sort of way, about what ammo will feed reliably and what ammo won't.

If given the choice, I'd go with the reliability and "carry-ability" of the Nylon 66 every time.

If you're going to mount a scope and care about accuracy, you may want to have your 'smith install the cantilever Weaver base intended for the Browning Automatic. The "receiver" on the Nylon 22s is just a sheet-metal cover for the structural nylon and isn't firmly attached to the barrel.

Remington's Nylon 66 shot 100,000 hand thrown wood blocks, only 6 misses and no malfunctions.

thanks guys.....my brother bought one and needed info on it and I have never seen one...no doubt rem discontinued it fo complaints of feeding...he bought it from a pawn shop 200 cheaper than they wanted for the 2 -66 s

For a right handed shooter they are a great rifle. I however am left handed and the one I owned powder burned the side of my face on every shot. The flinch I developed was really bad. I couldn't wait to be rid of that rifle.

I have the 76 "Trail Rider" lever action. Bought it as a sack of parts for $60 and fought it for a few hours to get it reassembled correctly. Works fine now as goofy as it is. Didn't make very many, 22000 I've been told, and they bring pretty big $$. I don't care for the nylon rifles but they are reliable and came in a zillion models and varieties for the collector.

The nylon Remingtons are cool. I finally bought a 66 several years ago to compensate for the fact that I could never afford one in the '60's when I was a teenager. When they first came out my wife's grandfather had a whole selection in his store including the tube and DM fed bolt guns and a single shot smoothbore bolt gun for shooting shot.

Several years ago I was in a sporting goods store in the easter Adirondack area and noticed a couple of nylon Remingtons on a wall in a room behind the gun department. I went in and the walls were covered with all sorts of nylon Remingtons, autos, bolt guns, lever guns, in what must have been every configuration ever offered...certainly the most complete collection I've ever seen.

Man, SotG, thanks for the reminder on that ad about shooting the blocks. My grandmother bought me a Model 77 in about 1972. It's shot countless squirrels, rabbits, and grouse. It sits on the back of my safe and still has the leather sling I made for it hanging off of it. It might just get handed down to one of the grandchildren.

we have one and don't recall ever being bit by powder.


they're a neat lil rifle, but you have to be careful not to bump the mag too hard.

it's killed lots of squirrels and more than a few porkies.
