Has anyone tried the 22's that come in various military form. Like the S&W and Colt. Also the MP5 variants, etc. How were they?

I recently shot the Colt version of the AR 15(made in Germany I think.) I put 2 mags through it as fast as I could pull the trigger. It fed perfectly. I didn't have time to test accuracy, but did spread horse apples across the pasture at 25 yds.

i have the s&w. it is a really neat gun. it will cycle anything i have, including thunderturds. it is waaaay too easy to blow through a brick of ammo with that thing.

I currently have a S&W M&P15-22, an Umarex UZI, an H&K MP-5/22, and a GSG AK-47/22. I have also had an ATI Stg44/22 and a GSG-5.

The M&P 15/22 operates and takes down in the same manner as an AR. It shoots very well with ammunition it likes, but malfunctions often with ammo it doesn't like. A full RN profile is necessary. I generally use Federal Bulk in it with no problems.

The Umarex UZI has only been used with Federal bulk and operates very reliably with that ammo. It's a heavy gun, weighing about the same as a 9mm UZI. The build quality is excellent.

The MP-5/22 also has been used only with Federal bulk. It has been 100% reliable so far. The build quality is excellent. It's a lighter gun than a 9mm MP-5, but still a vey substantial gun.

The GSG AK-47/22 works very well with a variety of ammo. I mainly use it with Remington Golden Bullets. The gun is much lighter than a real AK and looks a little chintzy at first glance, but it shoots surprisingly well.

The ATI Stg44 worked well with Federal bulk, the only ammo I tried in it. Sighting it in was a real pain because the rear sight was way too low. Also, the barrel/forend assembly would move up and down when you would grasp the forend, changing the relationship between the front and rear sights and POI. I saw a post on another site that showed you could shim the rear sight up with a couple of nuts as spacers on the mounting screws, and it worked like a charm. Placing the support hand on the front of the magazine well solved the barrel movement problem.

The GSG-5 functioned well with Federal bulk. Mine was an early model and I sold it before picking up the H&K.

All of these guns will give an occasional misfire or malfunction, but they are quite a bit of fun. The S&W has been more temperamental regarding ammo choice than the others, and the GSG AK has been the least, in my experience.

Accuracy of these guns with bulk ammo and iron sights has been about 1" to 1 1/2" at 25 yds in my experience, fine for plinking and wabbit hunting, but nothing near Olympic potential.

Got an good deal on an 22lr upper and mags on another forum a few years ago. It's been extremely reliable with the Federal bulk 22lr ammo I use and other brands I don't have in bulk. I like the fact that my trigger and controls remain the same, that was the big deal and why I went complete AR upper instead of an facsimile style 22lr of the AR. Also the price was too fair to pass up.
