I have an older 41, 7 3/8 barrel with a compensator. I bought it many years ago, when I got it I was told it was an "older" model because it has a cocking indicator at the rear of the slide. I don't shoot pistols in any kind of target venue, I thought someone who does could make better use of it. Any idea of its worth?

First of all, condition is a huge factor. Second, check on Gunbroker and other similar sites for the prices actually bid on like specimens, not asking prices. Combine that with what you feel you need to come away with, and you've got your starting point on price.

Agree on condition being the biggest factor, very much so for 41's. post up some pics and you'll get some real word prices. Like pappy said, what people ask and what they are actually selling for can vary wildly.

Smith 41's are sought after for shooters. There are no better bullseye rimfires IMHO. New ones, when you can find them, are in the $1200 range and owners are disappointed in the quality compared with he older ones.
Around here prices for the 7 3/8" with muzzle brake run from $700 to $1000, depending on condition. Original box adds value. Mine is not pristine but still shoots great. I "stole" it a couple of years ago for $700.
