I have the opportunity to trade for a Kimber 22 lr "Hunter" rifle made in New York. What is the concessus about them? This is only the second one I have seen in my used gun prowling in the last 15 years or so. It seems beautiful and well finished, if fairly plain, classic style sporter. It just exudes a quality that no other 22 rifle I have experience with does. It reminds me of my Smith & Wesson 5-screw K22 Target Masterpiece.

Thanks for your thoughts!
I have 2 of the Hunter models. They do exude quality because that's what they are- Quality. Both of mine are extremely accurate rifles.
I doubt that you would ever be disappointed in buying it. Mine will never be sold, maybe given to grand kids though.

I'm a big fan. The NY Kimber K22's are one of my favorites. The Hunter and Classic models are well balanced and handle well in the field. I now have 4 NY Kimbers after getting a Hunter several years ago(K22 Classic, Hunter, HS and K17 Classic Varmint 17 HM2). The 2 main complaints regarding the K22's are weak ejection and some magazine issues. The Kimber K22 uses a 5 round mag based on the early Remington 500 series RF mags. The Rem 511/513/521 6 and 10 round mags are interchangeable with the Kimber K22's and work well. I've been fortunate to not have any mag issues with either.
I have Coopers,A 54 Anschutz sporter, and 5 NY Kimbers. I have owned more of all. IMO the NY kimbers are every bit of the Anschutz and Cooper. Mags be darned, they can be tweaked. Ejection, The Anschutz is as bad or worse. All of mine will shoot sub 1 in. groups 5 shot at 100 yds. half the time with no wind or my reading it correctly.
1 hunter
1 HS
1 classic
2 varmit classics
Hoarders! Hahaha!

I only have one, a classic, but really like it!
Thanks guys! After hearing your experience I'm going to go ahead and get it. I'm trading a 30-06 for it and will have about $600 into it. That seem like a fair deal?
Jfkid: I have (and LOVE!) a Kimber Model 22 H/S (Hunter/Silhouette) and I would relay this to you - it performs flawlessly and is very accurate!
The trigger is simply EXCELLENT.
I use my Kimber mostly for Ground Squirrel Hunting and it is PERFECT for that.
Magazines are pricey and hard to find though so be advised.
Take a snap cap with you the next time you inspect it and try the trigger - that will sell you - I am sure.

Heck ya!! Jump on it! NY Kimber K22's are great rifles!

P.S. VG, did you happen to notice what that last 40X Sporter .22LR sold for on GB? Just sayin'. Snicker.
Numrich has used K-22 mags for $25.95. From what I've heard, these are very nice.
You can buy Remington 500 series magazines from Brownells that fit and work fine in the K22 action. They are aftermarket made by Wisners and are high quality. The only downside is that they are 6 round which means they don't fit flush. They also have a 10 rounder which is good for target rich ground squirrel shooting. The 6 rounders are $16.05 and the 10 is $19.35.
Thanks everyone! It comes with 3 original Kimber magazines. I will snap a picture of two for you all when I get it. I know that without pics it never happened!

I will have to find a scope to match the rifle. Any recommendations?
Congrats. I think you will really like it. Post pics when you get a chance.

A Leupy 3-9x33 EFR would be my choice for that rifle. Although any good quality compact scope will work fine.
For a long time they were only bringing about $800, but recently well over a grand...

I have two...super accurate but decided to sell the prettier one to fund other projects... It is on GunBroker now and the bid is already $995...

If you only have $600 into yours with two extra magazines you got a real bargain...

..scope... I had a Nikon Buckmark {?} 6-18 with target dot... I would have something with at least a 14X top end to get all the accuracy you can out of it...

I had one an sold it. Was a very quality rifle.

Very nice K22 Hunter! Is yours a 2-position or 3-position safety? The NY Kimber 3-postion safety was introduced in 2004, somewhere around serial # KA12,000 range.
Jfkid: Congrats - looks great.
I hope it shoots as good as it looks.
Be sure and let us know how it shoots and how you like the trigger.
Enjoy.

MCT3: it is a 2-position safety. I mounted my extra scope (old leupold m8 4x28 long tube). Just try it out. I will be trying it out alongside a Norinco JW15. A little different animals for sure!
I bought a Kimber Hunter .22LR new about 14 years ago. I still have that fine rifle and it remains my favorite rimfire bolt action rifle. You will be very pleased with yours.
Great find! My favorite gun in my cabinet!
I've got a Kimber Hunter that I got in 2007 I think, it's been long enough to forget with my mind these days; anyways, it's the best and by far the favorite of the many different 22s that I have owned over the years. They are excellent rifles and yours should be a long term favorite too.
I have a Kimber Hunter, along with Browning and Winchester 52s. It is my favorite of the three. Buy it quickly before it is gone to someone else.
I have a Classic and it is a great rifle, very accurate and great trigger
I've got a pair of the early Yonkers 22 Classics with the red butt pad. Both have the 2-position safeties but had one replaced with a 3-position while back at the mother ship to replace a broken bolt stop. Quite possibly the most accurate rifles I own.

Have thought of having one of the barrels cut and threaded to 16" for a future suppressor. Would that be considered blasphemy?
My opinion is...I'd like one! smile

Congrats jfkid, that is a good lookin' rifle.
I have a 22 Classic that is one of the few guns I've bought new. I initially had some feeding problems but Kimber made it right. It shoots Aqulia match into stupid little groups.
