Looking to buy a new Honda Sxs for the farm. On the bubble on which one to buy. Give me your opinions.

If you're going to use it as a work vehicle I would go with the 1000. Make sure you get a roof and a wind shield no matter which one you go with.

sold my 700 and bought a 1000. Get the roof. The plastic windshield on mine is terrible for seeing through. There are aftermarket glass ones for about $825.

My friends have one. I've never got to ride in it but they're using it constantly. They have the 1000

I had a 700 for about a year and a half. I ended up not using it as often as I thought and sold it for more than I paid. It had under 50 miles on it. Overall, I liked it and for what I did I did need the 1000.

The plastic windshield on mine got tiny scratches in it that were barely visible in daylight. But at night made it hard to see through. I ended up just taking the windshield off. I didn't know they made a glass version. Had I kept mine I'd have gone that route.

That's why I was able to sell mine for more than I paid. My wife advertised it on Facebook and I had guys begging me to take their money. 1st to show up drove 50 miles after dark to get it.

It took me 3-4 months to get mine when I bought it.

2018 700 Deluxe. We upgraded from a 2002 john deere gator 4x2. We use it around the house and to work around our property 3mi down the road. It will run 36-38MPH down the gravel road which is plenty fast. I bought Honda due to the Automotive style transmission and the Honda reliability . I wasn't buying another belt drive.

I don't know what the prices are now but we paid $10,200 two yrs ago.

You'd pay twice that now, at least.

Very hard to find Honda Pioneers.

I found a 2021 that was almost new in camo, less than 200 hours and it had just been serviced. Top, windshield, gun racks, seatcover and trailer.

$18,000 took it home on the trailer that was worth $2,000.

Love my 700-4 deluxe, 2019 I paid 12,300 for it, plus the stupid fees. Pretty good deal back then, was getting quotes in the 16k range from other places. I bet I could sale it for more than I paid for it now. I don't use it as much as I should, but it sure is nice to have when I need it, dove hunts, sporting clay range, etc.

1000 are nice, but big, if you have tight trails etc it may give you fits, plus you'll need a bigger trailer for sure.

Had a JD 500e 4 seater. 9000$$ in 2010. Sold 6 months ago for 12,000 with oil leak and gear shifter jamming. Had it all fixed before at dealer under warranty. Will not buy another one or belt drive.

I went and talked to a Honda dealer I needed a 4 seat model. I will say don’t put anyone you like back there in the back seats. My buddies have had the 700-4 and it needed the cam replaced around 7000 miles. Seems to be a known problem do to the oil system not supplying oil to the cam when idling. Kinda a slow machine shifts are noticeable I will say that. I went to check out the 1000-5 dealer didn’t have any for sale but had a few in the back for service. Had 3 of them actually all in for transmission issues. He said if your going to get one for farm use make sure to get the deluxe with paddle shifters. I guess at low speeds the auto only version has issues. I ordered a Mule Pro FXT something I never thought I would pick. It runs 50mph it’s pulled a 5000lb loaded trailer fine, rides like a Buick. Best part is when I have the back seat in use I still have a bed. I’m very happy with it I know several woolen around with them with over 20,000 miles on older units. After having Olaris rangers in the past I’ve not seen many Polaris rangers make it past 10K miles. Take it for what it’s worth I’m a Honda guy,

Get the 1000
Posted By: harv3589 Re: Honda pioneer 700-1000 - 09/23/23
Finally got the call from the dealer, mine will arrive in October. 1 year to get.

1000 3P base model, which has the paddle shifters.

I ordered a 1000 in February 23, and was told it would arrive late March. It didn’t arrive then or the dates the dealer told me it would arrive in April and May. I canceled the order and bought a CanAm Defender. So far it’s performed very well.

I was after one, until I rode in a few and just wasn’t as impressed as I hoped I would be…. My buddy’s Tracker 800 was quieter and rode better. Then two of the guys that had them had their trans go out. Kinda scared me off. I want to like them, but I’m a bit gun shy now. Looking more at the Can Am. Those are impressing me so far….if I’m gonna spend truck $ on a SxS, anyway….so does that new Mule FXT or whatever.
I just test drove a new Pioneer 700 ...That thing was a rattling son of a bitch and shifted in to 3rd gear before i got to 20 MPH and was very noisey and no storage ....I then test rode a new 2024 polaris Ranger 1000 premium... Buttery smooth and no rattling and the engine didn't seem to run as High a rpm as the Honda... The ranger had storage every where...I bought the Ranger...There is also videos on youtube about the Honda rattling and the sucky trans...The 1000 honda may be better!!! did not drive one...

The rattling is fixed with bushings for the door, never heard anything bad about their transmissions, they've been solid. But yeah, you are correct, you wanna go 60 plus, the 700 isnt going to get you there.

I don’t care about going 60mph. I do care about noise and rattling and a ‘bulletproof’ transmission that puked out of 3 dif 700s and 1000s the same family bought for ranch work. That gave me pause. The noise and rattles ticked me off…..because I really wanted one and wanted them to be Hondas. They didn’t seem to be what I hoped they were. My old 2006 Rhino is no louder than the Hondas I’ve been in. I will say my buddy that has the little 500 works the tar out of it and it seems to be holding up well, if loud. The upside to the transmission design seems to be you can pull in reverse safely, unlike most others where it’s the weak point in reverse.

Took delivery of our 1000 yesterday. Just in time for our hunting trip today. Nice machine, just a short trip on it yesterday and it’s great to drive.

The 5 Pioneers at our hunt camp, 1 500, 2 700’s and 2 1000’s have been the most reliable SXS’s in the camp. The old Big Red is still chugging along too, despite the abuse my bud’s sons dish out to it.

One Cam Am 800, a few Yamahas and the Polaris contingent are all there. It seems that the Rangers are the most troublesome with lots of electrical and suspension issues.
we have 4 rangers in our hunt camp. 1 northstar, 2 ranger 900xp, 1 1000 Ranger premium and a sportsman 570 premium.....I put 90 hrs and 370 miles on this hunting season.....Not one breakdown ...These are hard miles and hrs in the hills of eastern ky, Reclamed strip mine, steep hills , frame deep mud .... We have been running rangers for about 15 years no issues.. Never had a belt break or a suspension problem or electrical problem... We Had a 2014 Ranger 400 that the fuel filter stopped up on about 10 years ago and I pecked on it with a hammer and it started right up...I forgot my brother cracked the windshield on his Northstar...Might of had something to do with pooring hot water on it to defrost the windshield instead of waiting on the defroster....lol

Clearly, Polaris ships the non-defective ones to KY then, and the rest go to other locales like Georgia smile
