School me on them. I have a fair amount of experience with regular old 4 wheelers, but have never been on or in a SxS. The 50" trail models look neat. It looks like its Polaris or Arctic Cat, with Polaris being much more common. Any warts on them, what should I look for, etc. will be used for recreational trail riding on 50" trails. Maybe hunting but most likely used to ride for fun and to go fishing.

We like our 50" Honda Pioneer 500. We have been on the 50" FS trails without issue.

Quiet, comfortable, dependable, good on fuel, good price. The P-500 works good for us.

Thanks. Lots of trails in the Bighorns are 50", which is why I was looking at the narrow ones. It's hard to justify the expense of a new one when I just looked at a 2007 Jeep with a 6" lift and new BFG's stickered at the dealer for $17,000. But...I guess a SxS goes places a Jeep can't.

I use an '09 Rhino 700...not 50" for sure...even when Razr owners

switch out the stock tires & wheels..they exceed the 50"..many of our

Forest trails are tagged 50" only..others not..soon the Forest Service

will have enough over 50" SxS machines in service to do some trail

widening...hopefully anyhow...but...some trails are tagged 50" for

safety reasons...thats as wide as the trail can be made...our BLM high

desert riding has similar rules...just more open trails for 50" +

If I were looking at a 50" SxS it would be the Artic Cat Wildcat

Trail...buddy has one & it kicks azz...Utah is big business for off

road machines...70% public land...lots of ridin' check out these

used SxS prices & selections in 1st link....2nd link is trails..

Just bought two Yamaha's, a 550 and a 700, and have run a few trails behind my place up here. First timer for me but thoroughly enjoying them.

no long term experience, but have rented a 570 rzr (polaris) a few times, to access some very hard to reach backcountry south of ST George , UT

2 adults, the 570 pulled fine (no mud, but lots of steep, narrow, rocky trails)

carried a fair amount of gear on the back deck (no room in the "cab") but did not overnight out of it. front is just 2 seats, not a lot of room for gear in front (gets you the 50")

Thanks for the feedback. I was interested in the grunt of the 570 vs the 900. Could you rig something on the roof to carry say two backpacks or duffel bags?

Thanks for the link. I did see that the guys that modify the 50" machines with wheels and tires end up over 50".

I can't comment on the RZR 570 but I just picked up a Ranger 570 mid size crew (4 person). I have to say I'm impressed with the "grunt" it has with 4 adults aboard. Unless you're interested in top speed or 0-60 times, I believe it'd get you, a passenger and gear wherever you want to go. Of course, the 900 would trump it in the "giddy up and go" department.

Just purchased a 570 RZR and only have 85 miles on it. 😩 it is sooooo much better than the 500 sportsman I have used for 10 years. I was tooling around from 5500 ft to 9500 ft on my ride and it was night and day difference. If you want the good, bad, or other go to rzrforum.com and learn all about them.Jon

back deck has plenty of room for that. I did notice the gear got pretty warm (sits right over the engine, I guess)

don't keep hershey bars back there, unless they are in a cooler!

A piece of plywood or something on the deck should take care of that.

I was thinking of something like a bread rack, to give an inch or two of clearance/airflow.

probably ensolite foam pad would keep the heat out

I own a 2013 RZR 800 LE, 50". This machine has proven to be very trail capable, and has taken us through some really difficult obstacles with no problem.

Had a chance to ride shotgun in a new 1000 canam commander. Two adults, 2 border collie and 1 hanging tree pup (all three on my lap due to the roll of barb wire in the back) chasing cows at about 6000' elevation. 3rd time in a week my uncle had chased the neighbors cows out of his pasture and second time he had repaired the cut fence wires. He was past mad and it was run them sob's out again. Even on fairly steep and rocky hills at too fast a speed it was a good ride and had plenty of power. Very maneuverable excellent acceleration . My 570 ranger feels like a dog now.
