What is an older version Kimber Montana (no threaded barrel) barrel in .270 WSM worth these days? Its in very good condition, has a Leupold VX-3 in some form of magnification close to 3-9x40. I have liked this rifle and known of its availability for a while, but I have one in .280ai.... which is very similar to the 270 wsm. Now that I see they may not be making them any more, I have a bit more interest in picking it up, if the price is right. Is the Kimber Montana a $1200 rifle these days, without the optic?
Are you buying or selling?
buying, potentially
If you're a gambling man, 1200 is a fair price.

The only kimber montana I've owned/shot wasn't worth it. Hell a cheapo ruger american predator shot better. I mightve had a lemon, but I wouldn't pay 1200 for another 2" kimber montana again.

Yes, that would be disappointing. I bought one in 280ai at a gun show, and I thought I would be getting a problem gun but I wanted to try one out. Turns out it shoots great. As good as all my Tikka rifles shoot, it would be a shame to spend that money on Kimber and run into issues.
If nothing else it would make a good donor for a new barrel! $1200 isn’t bad. I think the 84m and L bring a little more change usually.

That would now be the low end of the going Kimber Montana price.

Yeah by a few hundred if you can even find one.

There is one here locally (non threaded barrel) that has been for sale on Armlist for probably 4 months... It is a 338 fed... great as new shape with one of the new Redfield scopes and they have it listed at 1000 and it has been available for that long and nothing yet... take from that what you will. I have thought a few times of offering them $800 but keep backing out

338 Fed is your answer, My not so local dealer had a NIB 8400 338 win mag that hung out in his shop for years. He sold every 84m wood or montana or 8400 almost instantly.
It's clearly caliber specific. One, a 270WSM, sat on the used gun rack here at Cabelas listed at $999 for at least a month. I thought about buying it several times to re-barrel it and decided not to do so. If it had been any other "more common" caliber, I think it would have sold in days at that price.
As of Friday, there is a 270 WSM here at Scheels for $899 on the used gun rack. I wouldn’t think it would last long at that price, but I guess it depends on if the right person walks by or not.
My 84m 338 fed shoots great it is also the lightest of the Kimbers by several ounces.

By it. You will like it.
I have a few Kimber Montana's in 223 and would not think of selling them for that price
Thanks for the information guys.... must be very caliber specific. Seems around here the 270 WSM is a popular round, but it still sits. I was guessing the VX-3 was worth a good chunk of money, I think its 4-14 power but I would need to look again. Oh well..... I guess we will see what happens.

Where I am on it. Even as a donor to make something else, 1200 wouldn't give me pause were I looking.
If I wanted a 270 wsm I'd jump on it.

I'd be surprised if kimber ever produces montanas as we knew them ever again

Given that we know the stock supplier is changing, if they ever do come back, you will be proven correct. smile
Hey Big Sky, is that one still there? If so I think it's been over a year...I've handled it on several western trips

No, it's finally gone.
Trip the glass and you're left with the 6.5 PRC or 7 WSM donor. The quality of a true Montana stock cannot be understated, and apparently they're no more.
I would say 850-900 on the used market for good condition. Figure the scope to be worth 75% of the “new” price. With a 400$ leupold scope on it I would offer 1100 and see what the seller says.

Good luck finding them for that price!
I've bought one Montana. An 84M in 257R

Most likely his response will be GFY

Let me know where a scoped montana exists for 1100 and I buy them 24/7.
