It seems that some of us do at least one thing to a rifle each year. Here's mine.

1) Win 70 get's a edge stock

2) Encore get's a 204 ruger barrel.

I'll be getting a 700 SA built in 25-284 with a Rick Bin stock.
Looking for a donor action now.

Don
I'll be dropping my Remington 700BDL .30-06 Barreled action into an HS Precision stock. It's unnecessary, but I like the way the green spider web finish looks.

I'm finishing up my .45-70 Guide Gun project right now.
deciding between xs sight package and 4x33 leup with heavy duplex for my remmie adl (anybody got a good used one in matte mufti?). hoping to rebarrel my m96 sporter, too.
Where to begin:
Mickey Coleman is building me a 223
Rem 600 reworked
Lilja #3, 8 twist, 22"
McM MR stock, ADL, 60%burgundy, 40%black
D&D is going to Build a 338Fed
Rem 600 reworked
Rock #3, 10tw, 22"
McM Classic, 40%od, 40%black, 20% woodland beige
D&D build 257 Bob
Rem 700SA reworked
Pacnor #1, 10tw, 22"
McM MR, ADL, GAP Camo
Stu Satterlee is finishing off a 1910 Mex Mauser and a blank of straight grained english is getting turned
And I'm stuck here in Egypt and won't be able to play until November
I have a few in the works...

Have a 700 action thats going to get a Shilen 280ai mountain rifle tube screwed on it, going in original mountain rifle wood stock, cutting it off so it fights my wife, install recoil pad, find bottome metal and strip and refinish old stock as its 'turned' hazey.

Have to refinish an old M70 featherweight stock that was cut off and bedded to a 325WSM... again for the wife. Its about half done, just need to stain and apply finish laugh

Going to drop my pre-64 338-06 into a new stock of some sort... not sure yet, might do surgery on a new featherweight stock... or go with a Micky...

I need to get sights installed on a new muzzy.

Lastly... need to have some work done on a mauser chambered in 35 Brown/whelen. She has a feeding hicup at the moment. Will only feed off one side.

only thing that's possibly in the works for me this year, is to start building my 3 year old son his first centerfire ... fast twist .223AI on an m700 action ... will work up the details as it happens, but have a good idea so far what it's gonna be ...

as for me, I'm good to go right now with what I have, even though there are plenty of projects that would interest me ... I just feel like I need to get this rifle for my son out of the way before I move on to adding "unnecessary" rifles to my battery ... (grin)

I have a brown precision kevlar stock for a tang safety Ruger M77 laying around just crying for a barreled action to go in it, I'm thinking 280 AI 24" #1.5 contour fluted from ER Shaw. topped with a 2.5 X 8 Leupold.

358 STA with a RKS gain twist barrel on a L-61-R Sako action.Maybe a Mickey stock for my 7mm undecided will talk more with Steely about it anyhow.
Posted By: JPro Re: This year's rifle projects - 02/13/07
I have a 700 ADL action, McMillan blue/gray/black mountain rifle stock, steel ADL guard, Pac-nor #2 25-284 barrel, Holland lug, Leupold DD lows, and a 3.5-10 PR Leupold waiting to be assembled.

I have a McMillan Classic (dk gray/lt gray/black) coming for the .300 SAUM BDL SS. Probably going to bob it back to 22 inches. A FXIII 6x42 will be going out for an M1 turret and riding in the signature dual dovetail rings.

I have a McMillan in black for the Old Man's 77 Ruger. Will try to get him to kick in a little for a new #3 SS Pac-nor in 7mm Rem Mag.

Also either going to build a 10/22 or buy a CZ 452 or Rem 504.

Replacing the 8x57 barrel on my Yugo with a 6.5x55, to make a deer/pronghorn gun for my son in law, and his sons who can't wait to be old enough to carry a gun in the hunt.
I want to either build or buy a light weight mountain gun for sheep and goat hunting. Looking at a short action chambering in either, 257 WBY, 260 Rem or 7mm-08. Will put a Leupold 6X fixed scope on it, Vero Vellini sling and if it's a build I'll use a McMillan stock. If I buy a factory rifle it will be a Kimber Montana in one of the above calibers less the 257 WBY.
Finish up Ol' Fugly my 03 Springfield. Funds permitting a .223 AI and/or possibly .2-6MM or .22-06, and a .250 Savage AI may also be in the mix.

1. JC Higgins M50 270. Paid $280 and it will be a loner. So far its already shooting 1.25 moa with a 2-7 VX1 in Weaver Extensions. Am having a problem finding a rear base as it has .86" spacing there. May go with different height rings but they need to be ordered. The trigger is six pounds so that needs some work. Other than the above it will stay original.

2. M88 Pre 64 308. It shoots 3 moa now. The crown looks strange with very sharp edges. I may photo it and then cut it and shoot it again. Wish I had not paid so much at $525. I just wanted one but now that I have handled it the thrill is gone.

3. Still hoping for Weaver bases for Kimbers.

4. Thinking of a Savage switch barrel project.

Higgins M50 for $280? Dang good deal!

Maybe you were involved in the debate about the stock triggers on those. My opinion is that they are inherently dangerous. You may want to think about putting a Timney in. That will be safer, and sort of 2 1/2 poundish.
1. .308 Marlin XLR

Next year...

1. .375 Ruger

Contemplating . . .

Tikka LH stainless 223 or 243 (or both--maybe).

Remmy 7600 30-06 just for Kicks . . . (maybe).

S&W 617 22LR for practice . . .

For Sure:

Single Shot "trainer" 22 for my boy's 7th B-day (C-Z, Henry, Marlin, Chipmunk?).

I've got both a 257 WBY and 270 WBY on Model 70 actions in the works. Will be converting a couple of Remington KS Mtn Rifle stocks to use on the projects. They should both be done within a couple months.

just sent off a check for an 8 twist, #3 Broughton to do another 223AI. Specs yet to be determined.

Got this 416 Rigby due to be done sometime in August:

If I can find the right action, I will be starting a 257 Roberts using this blank:

CAS,

That's beautiful wood. Do you do your own stockmaking? Thanks...Bill.
Posted By: CAS Re: This year's rifle projects - 02/13/07
Attempting it, but not on these blanks.

I have a couple of cheap black walnut sticks I am whittling to learn.

Waiting on the brown truck to deliver my M77 with it's new Douglas barrel in .257 Roberts. Original wa sgreat with varmint bullets, but marginal for heavys.
Thinking about the Savage switch deal.
Yes I have read the commentary on the M50's triggers where they are attached to the stock. To be frank I have not looked at one close and we have had a M51 for 55 years. I am going to take this stock off however and examine it.
CAS,

What action is that 416 on? Might as well tell us the magazine details and the barrel as well etc.

Right now I have a 9.3x62 being built on a C. daly receiver. 20", fajen stock and iron sights. Gonna be my thrash around, hiking gun. Unfortunately its gonna have one of those god awful muzzle brakes on it so the wife can shoot it. Luckily its gonna have a cap so I can take it off.

I also have a BRNO action that might just have to become a 458winny. Not sure on that one yet.
Posted By: CAS Re: This year's rifle projects - 02/14/07
Don,

That is a Vektor Magnum Mauser action, originally designed for the 416 Rigby. The barrel is a Pac-Nor, and is getting turned down from it's current sewer pipe contour (.850 at the muzzle).

I got a pretty good deal on the action since the dovetails had been cut in the square bridges. The smith doing the work is going to fill the dovetails and bring it back to it's original condition.

It'll be complete with a Leupold 1.5-5 scope in claw mounts.

You should think a Lott about that one........ smile..........DJ

Don, that sounds like a "Big Stick Special". You are not going to add a "Jolly Roger" I hope.

My project for this year is a new barrel on my Win 70 classic. Somebody told me the 264 wouldn't eat my barrel.....sheesh. Guess I am just gullible.

Also want to add a peashooter to the stable as the grandkids are almost big enough to start pulling triggers. Was thinking a Savage 93 HMR with the thumbhole laminate and accu-trigger.

But with the price of HMR ammo 20 cents a round, I am considering a 77-22 Hornet instead.
CAS you are lucky, where did you find the Vektor, don't see them much anymore. When you do they are pricey, last one I saw the guy wanted $2500.

I have a 22-250AI in the works. This one probally will wear a Jolly Roger......as a reminder.
I have a "left-hand" winchester M-70 'stainless action. I am considering a pac-nor or L-W barrel in either 25-06 or 338-06.

Will be set in a michey stock with a leopold III in 3.5X10 BC.
BMT-when you're looking at the .22's for the young fella take a hard look at the CZ Scout. Its stock is a bit longer than some of the starter .22's and it has a unique clip system that allows it to be used a single shooter at first. And then when you want you can just insert a repeater clip and Jr can start having multiple shots available.

IMO the best starter and or petite ladies .22 out there.

Get em shooting young.

I found a gunsmith who had it. He mentioned it in passing, and I hemmed and hawed for a couple months until he finally dropped the price enough to make it an easy decision.

I also happen to know where another is, too. If the other had not already been drilled and tapped for a peep sight, I would have gotten that one as well.

Well, other than getting my new 7-08 Mnt rifle worked out, it looks like I'll be putting together a .300 Shamu! grin
Another one will be getting my Son set up with "his" Bob for his first deer hunt this fall! smile
I've got two planned, but I'm sure a 3rd will come up.

A 243AI, 1-9, 22" w/ a TI take-off and a 257 Roy, 1-10, 25" Fluted also on a TI take-off.

Can you tell by the caliber choices that I've been on the 'campfire to much. Wouldn't have owned either of those 6 months ago smile

Mine is a 35 Whelen on a Mod 70 Classic action. Actually it was last years project, i'm still waiting to get it back. Will post whenever the Brown truck brings it back.
After restocking my two finnlights last year,I've sent in my sako 75 ss/yn in to be fluted then I will put it to bed in yet another edge stock. After that I may be done with "projects" for a while. Just got my taxes done.
